Iona needs to add the male version of "The Creator's Game" to our list of sports. Lacrosse is the fastest growing college sport and we are located in the center of Lacrosse universe.
Of the 53 NCAA All American's chosen in 2021, 34 were from NY, PA, NJ MD, CT, or MA (Northeast) with 18 from the NYC Metro market alone. There were also 7 Canadians, all from the east.
Lets look at the Top 6 teams:
North Carolina: 27 Northeast Players, 14 from the NY Metro area. Virginia: 22 Northeast Players, 10 from the NY Metro area. Duke: 36 Northeast Players, 26 from the NY Metro area. Notre Dame: 29 Northeast Players, 17 from the NY Metro area. Maryland: 38 Northeast Players, 6 from the NY Metro area. Syracuse: 33 Northeast Players, 18 from the NY Metro area.
Marist finished up ranked 11th last year. They started their program 11 years ago. If we really put an effort into it, we could very quickly become competitive. Just a thought.

When I was a kid growing up in Westchester, lacrosse was big at Horace Greeley, Fox Lane and John Jay High School. Most of the strong players went to the top lacrosse colleges such as Syracuse, North Carolina, and Johns Hopkins.
86, your post made a lot of sense, but I've tried to watch a number of Lacrosse games, and I just don't enjoy the sport. I would certainly would applaud the College for getting on the Lax Train, but it's just not for me.

In theory it is very similar to hockey and even hoops and soccer. It is a very fast game and can be hard for folks to follow play because of the speed of ball movement. Back in the 90's Fox wanted to expand viewership of hockey fans across the country by using the FoxTrax Glowing Puck a system to help people unaccustomed to watching the game and who thought the puck was too hard to follow. Fox hoped the glowing streak would enable new fans to hockey, a better chance to follow the play. Maybe an improved version of this would help new Lacrosse fans follow play on televised games.
Or maybe, lacrosse is a game that is better experienced by playing than watching?
Title IX requires the same number of scholarships for men and women or individual scholarships of equal value.
From the layout of the sports programs currently offered... I would assume the women have more scholarships than the men do. Volleyball has got to have more scholarships than Golf. How did we meet the requirements under Title iX when we had mens hockey and football?
Someone made a case for football. That it's non-scholarship and attracts students who want to play FB, and might go elsewhere if we don't have a FB program. Makes sense, but not sure if it's valid.
Unfortunately, for schools with limited resources, the only way to achieve gender equity was to drop male sports, which is not the spirit of Title IX.
If anything, I'd love to see football or hockey return, although both would require big $$$$ (as would lax I would presume).
I would choose hockey. Football just isn't our thing. We're a gritty, urban school. Hockey, Basketball, in-door aquatics. I wouldn't even play baseball.
