I'm in the process of watching, The Day The Music Died, on Apple TV, Paramount. It's the story of Don McLean and how the song, American Pie, came to be written. The documentary is about an hour and a half (I'm about 30 minutes in and have to take a dinner break) and I highly recommend it. So far, no Iona mention, but a lot of New Ro pics, his house, family, music store on Main St.,etc. And I'm sure Guy will appreciate the pictures of the Standard Star, which Don delivered. I'll post more after it's over.

Just finished watching it and I'm sure you'll enjoy it, if you watch it. I think it's fair to say that American Pie is one of the all-time great American songs. A great tribute to a middle class kid from New Rochelle and the mark he left on American music. Would love to hear what other posters have to say.

Greg, from watching the program, it seems that he was subjected to parental abuse. Just a guess, but I'm going with you haven't watched the program.
