And, I'm not talking about winning in basketball and X-C and losing in baseball. I mean something associated with only Iona. Years ago, I remember reading (in the Ionian??) that after each FB game the coach would lead the team to the statue of the Blessed Mother and then the team would say a prayer. But like I said that was years ago. Would there be any reason to pass this idea on to the students, for their 'take'?

Cjb, you bring back memories. At all the Iona Prep-New Rochelle Thanksgiving games a Prep Alum, and while I forget his name he lived close to the present Prep location. He would always attend wearing his Raccoon overcoat. Brings back a smile.

Traditions start somewhere... maybe we can get a large piece of Iona Marble (known as the sacred stone of Columba, have it blessed by the the Bishop of Argyll and the Isles in Scotland, then have it mounted to a wooden plaque and placed above the door where players enter the gym? Maybe have the wood engraved with the phrase "Troid an Troid Mhaith" which is "Fight the Good Fight" in Irish and toss in some ornamental Celtic knotwork . The players could touch the stone for good luck before the games similar to the ND football team with the "play like a champion today" plaque. The stones are supposed to have special healing properties and fishermen would not leave port without their pieces of lucky marble.

I think we should have scheduled more games in November. Or, '70 can teach 59 how to play solitaire.

Couple of things: 1. Walter Peek was the Prep alum. 2. 86's suggestion, imo, was a great one, and maybe Super could forward it to President Carey for consideration. 3. I know that each year we have an O'Connell award winner or winners to recognize excellence on and off the playing courts/fields. But, should there be a male/female athlete honored for having the highest GPA? And call it the Br. Novak award.
