Losing Berrick to injury in the first half didn’t help. That play in the last minute where we played pretty good defense the kid started to drive, slipped, bobbled the ball, then caught it and slung a shot at the basket that went in with a couple of seconds on the shot clock sums up 40 years of Iona basketball, lol. 55

One last thing I’ll say. Sometimes when a team gets off to a shitty start they get a new lease on life with a change of scenery and a chance to win a tournament over a weekend. SMU was definitely a motivated team and they shot the ball ridiculously well based on their numbers. Either they aren’t as bad as their numbers suggest and needed some motivation or they just pulled a bunch of contested shots out of their ass. Heck they even made a 3 that hit the front of the rim and rolled in.

Very bad loss. This one is on Pitino and his staff. Agree. Horrible sub patterns in the 2nd half and several players that were left in way too long. Slaz is working back but offensively and defensively he hurt us. Weird subbing patterns for 2 years let's be honest. If massiello was coaching many would want him fired

This was a very bad loss but those two guards on SMU can absolutely hoop. I feel like Pitino should’ve went with Shema much earlier in the second half but SMU played a helluva game and iona didn’t adjust once the game got close. I don’t care how well they played. This was a 3-7 team that averaged 66 PPG and lost to a 1-12 Jackson State team at home. It’s absolutely pathetic. 100%, SMU is still a bad team, they beat us though. Maybe we need to look at the changes the last 2 games, if they are bad defensively it kills the rest of the press. Need to stop playing favorites, best athletes should be playing

I still can’t get over this one. Cue ledge life blah blah blah but wow that is bad for so many reasons. Really thought this team was gonna be special. Now we get to play Seattle and most likely Hawaii or Pepperdine. Yippeee! What a joke. Pitino has been so awesome but really don’t understand what he was doing with the rotation today. Back to being a regular old small mid major that has to win their league to dance. Exactly. You’d think with Pitino in year 3 we’d emerge as an elite mid major. 13-16 seed is again likely especially if we lose more than 2 games in our horrid league. We still cannot sell out our 2600 seat building. Losses like this make the average Iona fan more apathetic than they were before. Tough. Would love to see tournament games on campus to excite students as that would be the only time they would make noise. (maybe) Seeding is largely irrelevant these days. See Saint Peter's last season (Elite Eight, knocked off Kentucky in its first game). It's more important to be playing your best basketball come March, being healthy and elite defensively. You also need a good backcourt come March, as backcourts advance in the Dance, and we have that. There is plenty of time to get there and figure it out, and it starts tomorrow with hopefully better defensive execution.

Once you get past the inbounds against our press, the only D left is Nelly. New Mexico and SMU attacked our press, especially when Shema was not on the inbounds pass. Because the second line of D can't keep up

We are better defensively with Shema in the game, no doubt about that. Weiss 25 minutes Shema 8 minutes Insanity! Don't worry , people keep saying it will change, obviously we can't keep playing 4 on 5 and win

There has to be a better plan than simply shrugging one's shoulder's and saying "I was on him." That's for the head coach to figure out. He knows his personnel and sees them every day in practice. He has the game film. I'm sure we'll be facing plenty more teams with players who don't mind shooting it with a defender in their grill, so there needs to be a better plan going forward. I recall years back when RP faced Kemba Walker in the old Big East, he knew Kemba could score from all over, so he'd key in on ball denial (preventing him from actually receiving a pass) and making him work extra hard to score and shoot low percentages. If that approach doesn't work this day and age, then every rock must be turned to figure it out defensively. There's nothing harder to watch as a fan than an opposing team just have its way and score 50 points in the second half. If you don't have great defense, you don't have anything.

Was looking to be a great season. This was the end of it all. A bit dramatic?

Worst team in the MAAC. We will be lucky if we can win 8 league games. Coach is worthless. LOL

Shema’s minutes down and we lose 2 games. Quinn cannot turn the ball over at this clip. Terrible sub pattern in the 2nd half. Worst loss of the RP era. LOLOLOL this was NOT the worst loss, did you forget Morgan St at home.

How long before Guy tells everyone to get off the Ledge? How about now? Should mention that I picked us to lose this game. Looks like my forecast is worthy of more praise than was given at the time.
