Willis Reed dead at 80. nypost.com/2023/03/21/willis-reed-legendary-knicks-hall-of-famer-dead-at-80/I actually met Willis at Iona in February 1990 at the Iona/LaSalle game. He and I talked for about 10 minutes before the game, he was really nice. He had stated that he was there to scout Lionel Simmons. During one play Simmons had a two man breakaway with only Sean Green back. Simmons dunked and gave Green a smirk and a look. Green got the ball on the next two inbound plays, went baseline on Simmons and dunked over him in the same spot. I turned to Willis Reed and said " I think you came to scout the wrong guy" and he replied "I think you might be right." LOl He was very nice. A mountain of a man. A great player. Another of my childhood idols gone. May he RIP

Loved the Captain. One of the all-time great NY professional athletes. Also got to meet him when he was working for the Nets. A real nice guy. Spent probably a half hour chatting with me. Could have told me to take a hike at any time, but was very gracious.
