As I peruse the other MAAC blogs, there is not one that can compare to Iona Hoops. The consistent contributions of Guy, including his podcast, supported by sharkey and 86, make this blog the most professional and informative amongst other conference sites. We are so fortunate to have this team keeping us current (year round) with all that is Iona Hoops intelligence. We get first hand info and not just emotional trivia as in the other blogs. You guys make following Iona basketball so enjoyable. Thank you 🏀

Guy and I86 have really carried the load, but like Arnold said...I'll be back...lol
BTW, There isn't another LM/MM program, and even very few HM programs that get to enjoy year round podcasts, with guests like the HC Tobin and conference gurus like Jaden. Oh yeah, guests who have covered the new recruits who provide scouting reports.
Jon Barton - 6'4"SG/SF - out of St. john’s College HS (D.C.) and New World 3SSB. he is a southpaw who is a two way player that does all the little things a team needs to win. Earned Honorable Mention All-WCAC and ALL DCSAA.
Ratings: Rivals: N/R 247: N/R ESPN: N/R ON3: N/R
Offers: NJIT, Towson, Fordham, Radford,
Interest: Hampton, UMASS- Lowell, Mount St Mary's, Howard, Merrimack.
Scouting Report:
One of the area's biggest stockriser's this past weekend, Barton turned some heads with his performance at both ends of the floor against Sidwell- impressing as a versatile defensive stopper that can guard 1-3 while out-physicalling most HS 4s. He's knocking down C+S jumpers with more consistency while also hitting the glass hard to extend possessions on the offensive end and close out positions defensively. - PrepHoopsMD-
Patrick Curtin - 6'2" CG out of Glenelg Country School (MD) and has played for Team Melo and Topp Tier Bball. Tough-nosed, two-way guard who plays through contact. Kid can shoot. He would thrive in Tobin's system. Was a Washington Post All Met Team honorable mention selection and a DMVelite All-Maryland Team honorable mention selection.
Ratings: Rivals: N/R 247: N/R ESPN: N/R ON3: N/R
Offers: Binghamton, Wagner, Bucknell, Loyola (MD), American, Mount Saint Mary’s, Bryant,
Interest: George Mason, W&M, Penn State,
Scouting Report: "Patrick Curtin showed the ability to shoot the ball at a consistent rate. His Top Tier Black Maryland team competed and rode his stroke into deep playoff runs. The Glenelg Country School product has a strong IQ always looking to make a game-winning play." - Baseline to Sideline- Tip-off Classic Wrap-up - July 10, 2023
"Finding a place to stand was a luxury as the court was swarmed with people. Joson Sanon (29pts) and Patrick Curtin (34 pts) led the way for both teams scoring wise as the two Division One prospects traded threes throughout the game. Upon viewing Curtin for the first time, his shooting ability off the dribble is one that defenses need to beware of. The guard gets his shots off in an instant and can hit them from well beyond the arc with efficiency. His confidence radiated throughout the crowd and his ability to thread full-court passes was eye-opening. " -NERR - ZGXL: The Launch - Recap - Dylan Thayer- April 29th, 2024
This question seems tailored made for 86. And, the question is when did it change? Going back to my HS days, Westchester County was known for turning out some pretty good FB and baseball players, but not many BB stars. Larry Hennessey, Martin Doherty, Jesse Arnelle, George Starke, and Toone (forget his first name), and Jim Bostic come to mind, but they were the exception and not the rule. And now, whenever I read an article about metro HS BB, a couple of Stepinac kids are usually mentioned, and it seems that AS stands at or near the top of metro HS BB. So, I ask, when did it change?

Bernard Toone. Ray Williams ,Gus Williams , Clyde Vaughan , Rodney and Scooter McCray ,Kevin Cooper .I will continue later. Many many from Westchester.
Mount Vernon ruled Westchester, but there weren't many other Big BB schools. As for the names listed, they were all VG, but they pale in comparison to the talent coming out of NYC. Much of that had a lot to do with the population difference, but I would guess if an expert was asked to list the top 10 by year of the top BB players coming out of HS, nine would be from NYC. I'm not sure about Mobley. Was he from New Ro?
