I’m bored watching the Mets and it’s a quiet board.
Question for the board. Who is the 1 kid that left us and played well elsewhere, the kid that you wished played his 4 years here?
I’m going to go with Jahaad Proctor. Had a nice freshman year but had a logjam of guards ahead of him and coming in after him. Scored well at High Point and finished at Purdue

Unfortunately his dad had different ideas. Would have liked Jeff to come back for his Senior season. 😀

I was very disappointed Casimir didn’t stay for his final year.

Casimir had a great season at FGCU, similar to his FR season. Shot 48% from three scoring 14ppg. Grasso leaving probably played a major role as well.

All good choices.
I'll add John Estick from the late 90's to the list.
Estick played one year, pretty sure he was named to the MAAC all freshman team. Transfered to Miami (Ohio) and he and Wally Szczerbiak led them to the Sweet 16.
Estick was a rebounding machine. As an aside: he took the most frightening fall I ever saw any Iona player take going up for a rebound and getting undercut falling on the back of his head.
Sucks seeing a former Iona player competing for another team that deep in the NCAA tourney. Would've been nice having him 4 years.

The bar was set so high, it's no wonder that John Kijonek (Sp?) was considered a disappointment, but I hated to see him move to Marist. A good all around player imo.

Good ones above.
I'll add Gavin Kensmil. One of the rare Cluess era mistakes. Clearly had skills but couldn't get run for us, transfers to SFA and averages 16 and 7 while shooting over 60% FG. Key player for a couple exceptional SFA teams.

Kijonek and Curtis Celestine (also a Canadian but sat as ineligible his only year at Iona) transferred to Marist because Gary Brokaw insisted they go to class. Another Canadian player, Hamilton maybe?, didn't have his scholarship renewed but stayed at Iona as a student.

Well I'm going to add a player that came well before your time, and that's Johnny O'Conner. He was a senior at Iona Prep when I was a freshman. The Prep had a VG team and O'Conner was probably the fourth best player on the team, as a pass first PG who was about 5'10. He spent his freshman year at Iona but then joined the Navy for two years and I lost track of him. But after his time in the Navy he enrolled at Manhattan and became their starting PG. That Manhattan team was one of their best, with Johnny and Ed O'Conner, Gerry Paulson, Angelo Lombardo and the star, Jackie Powers (went on to become the Manhattan AD). I was at MSG when that Jasper team defeated West Virginia with the great Jerry West. Always wondered how Johnny would have done if he had stayed in New Ro.

Good topic 59. Overall I think Iona has been on the winning end of the transfer portal more times than not. If I had to go with one player I would say Rashad James.
