I see a lot of love and interest in the players who left us that could have returned to Iona Basketball this season. For the record, I could care less where they are or how they are doing. They and FURP showed no respect for Iona University in how they bolted. I understand NIL and bigger opportunities but unlike OZ, they showed zero loyalty to our program. Very happy with TA and the future of Gael hoops. That’s who and what I want to hear about…

brf, I certainly see where you are coming from, but I still consider them Iona Gaels, even if they are correctly former Iona Gaels. I don't think they had a choice but to listen to their former HC. They came to Iona because of him and listened to him on a daily basis. And judging by the recruiting success he's had in his HOF career he must be very persuasive. All he had to do was to convince Player A, who then helped convince Player B. And so on, and so on. Oz was the exception and not the rule, imo. I've heard the argument, that these guys were adults, and should have gotten better advice, and that's fine to feel that way.
You, being a young guy, might feel differently when you get to be an old guy.

First off I’m not as young as you might think 😉 I certainly expected and respect other opinions… My question is - where does Iona University fit into the equation? If they had ANY love, respect or appreciation for what Iona offered them, they’d still be a Gael like Oz. This is a personal opinion and I have a hard time even wishing them well. FURP is the #1 POS and always will be…

RP is a piece of shit, but I think Walter is making like 100k from NIL. It’s a choice we all would’ve made. As for guys like Sadiku & Cruz, that’s a different story

Well north of 100K.
I'm a believer in "Once a Gael, Always a Gael". But I don't need to know what they eat for breakfast every day.
The greatest poster in the history of the MAAC as determined by THREE separate polls.

I agree, when players transfer out and don't graduate here I don't consider them gaels

Nelly JJ - I am sooooo happy to never watch him try and go up against anybody bigger, faster or stronger than him. Completely disgusting to watch him dribble and not dunk the ball when he should have. Great in MAAC but otherwise mehhh.
Quinn - not very good but adequate
Silas, Cruz, Ayo, Brookshire maybe even Slaz- should have stayed and thriven with Tobin...
Ryan Myers my favorite nickname of all ---- The Human Turnover ---- just horrible every time he touched the ball.
Daniss and W Clayton Jr- loved those guys and root for them all the time. They made the right choice for themselves. I hope for DJ to have monster games but lose by 1. I hope Walter gets far in NCAA.
That all being said, WC Jr, DJ, Nelly, plus another Portal Big man and Power forward (+Cruz,Ayo,Brookshire,Slaz)= UnDefeated Regular Season and a 5-8 seed. 31-0
This is why Shitino leaving us high and dry (a fave radiohead song) causes so much pain. Lots of, and almost too much, ground to make up.
Probably not 31-0, but 28-3 would have been doable for sure.

No need to disparage Myers. Sure, dribbling was not his forte. But he could knock down three's. In Pitino's second year, we don't beat Marist without late three-balls from Myers and his clutch three at St Louis put us up before we blew it on the last possession. Boy, could this year's squad have used him.

Totally agree. I would have loved to have Myers on this team. Very clutch.
Another player on that list I would love to have had on this team is Tahlik Chavez. Double digit scorer for 2 years at Charleston Southern and now big Sr year at Louisiana Tech. Pitino jerked him around. Played big role in MAAC tournament when guys fouled out had a steal and made clutch free throws very late in semifinal win.
Tobin reached out to Chavez trying to get him to come back to Iona this season. Would have made a big difference. Oh well..

People, this is professional sports. Paid players move freely in and out of programs. It’s not show-friends, it’s show-business.
The above mentioned players NEVER would have come to New Rochelle had it not been for Pitino, except for the President’s son. James was part of the package. I’m sorry, players Pitino brought in aren’t going to stick around for Tobin, a guy who got lucky once in the tournament. Tobin will be successful by identifying undervalued players that the majors are sleeping on. After a successful season in the MAAC, and a year of solid collegiate experience, the majors will see some value in said player and offer them enough to jump ship through the portal and the cycle will continue for Iona. The grass is always greener. It has to be when your games are played at Hynes. Time to move on..

Just a point of disagreement. You said that Nelly was great in the MAAC, and I want to remind you, that's the League we are in, so it's good if you're good in your own league.
