Brings me back to my youth and the battle of the Monitor and the Merrimack. Those were the days.

Brings me back to my youth and the battle of the Monitor and the Merrimack. Those were the days. Haha! Merrimack, a Catholic school, is named after the river in MA that flows from New Hampshire toward Boston.

Makes me wonder is Fairfield leaving. Or Rider or Manhattan dropping down to D3.

I saw this on twitter this morning. I am not sure what to make of it. I would say adding more teams is a good thing, creates more competition and some unknown. Seeing a lot of people say we should change conference. But every conference seems to have an issue with us mostly around the capacity of Hynes.

Interesting additions to the MAAC. Sacred Heart has grown significantly over the past fifteen years and I believe over the long haul, they will be a solid MAAC addition and opponent. Unfortunately their basketball team has consistently lost quality underclassmen players due to transfer rules to higher ranked schools. This is a plight all mid-majors face, we have seen it here in the MAAC, however as you move further down the food chain in lower ranked conferences, the affect is even more pronounced on their programs. Like SHU, Merrimack seems to be growing. Merrimack's endowment, though relatively small $75+ million, is also growing. Side affects: Adding SHU may force Fairfield U to make a move out of the MAAC. The Stag alumni have always looked down on SHU as a commuter school at first and as an inferior academic institution to boot. The Stags have also long wished they were a member of the Patriot League, however their invitation to join the conference never seems to be forthcoming. In this era of conference realignment, perhaps their invitation will come or perhaps another "stronger" conference will come calling. If the Stags do leave, or if Rider and/or Manhattan cannot right their economic ship, thus being forced to leave Division 1, then the MAAC with these two additions, will at least be assured of maintaining the number of members necessary to have an automatic qualifier in the big dance. Just my thoughts! Go Gaels!!!

Marist trying to get into Patriot. Football and they feel a better academic match They couldn't leave fast enough. One winning season in the last 15. Have to get back to 11 teams.

With Qunnipiac, SHU , Merrimack & Fairfield in the Maac the Commissioner will have to consider the Total Mortgage Arena in Bridgeport for the tournament.
