Our offense is stagnant. It’s not only poor shooting in general. We seldom have anyone cutting to the basket without the ball (the freshman do it occasionally). We seldom have anyone set a pick (Sultan sets one or two every game, so he is the exception). Give and goes are almost never seen. No attempt to run high post plays (perhaps when Oz returns). No one posts up (Sultan and Gordan can with the right matchup).
This is the worst Iona offense I have seen in many years; perhaps ever. Way too many possessions where we throw the ball around idiotically 25 feet from the basket until someone throws up a desperation heave with the shot clock about to expire. Way too many 1 on 3 drives resulting is a poor shot or a blocked layup. Seldom do we see a drive and dish to the baseline, primarily because we almost never cut on the baseline without the ball.
Iona’s offense looks like Tom Pecora’s Fordham offenses; ineffective and atrocious. Tobin needs to fix this, and fast.

Slowly I'm beginning to see that this team isn't what I was hoping and that's ok. I am disappointed how some of the older players haven't improved much at all. I have much less patience with some of those guys. But I see a lot of potential in guys like Quigley and Arenguren. Too much dribbling and panicking leads to really bad possessions.

Will we also be starting a thread talking about how ridiculously dominant the defense has been the past few games as well?
I know I've said this ad nauseum, but since it's not being heard...let's wait until Os is on the floor for a bit to declare our offense the worst unit of all time in New Ro or whatever nonsense has been spewed above.

I think we should. Let's start one for rebounding also. Let's wait a few weeks for the Turnovers thread!

What gives me HOPE is our freshmen backcourt. Probably not a coincidence that they were the two guys, our Guy saw taking extra shooting reps. JA is only going to get better as he plays more. JQ just needs to get stronger and that might not happen until he's a soph. He has great court vision, and quickness, but his slight frame keeps him from finishing. Only a matter of time.

JQ does fantastic job of keeping his dribble, especially along the baseline, but no one cuts for him

Os will help when he returns, but he’s not the answer to all of the half court offensive problems, which are plain to see.

Remember, with every game we get more comfortable playing together. It might take longer than what we're used to, but I feel we'll get there. It's ONLY been 10 games and we know that we have a backcourt for now and the future. As for the front court, we can't make an informed judgement until Oz is back and playing a few games.
At least, that's how I see it.

Majority Frustrated with 4-6 start, especially with the significant contributions from the Fr class. Injury to Oz has obviously hurt. The frustration comes from the underwhelming play of the upperclassmen. More consistent play from them and the Gaels could be 6-4.
Let's remember the tough OOC the staff scheduled. Three difficult games coming up to end the OOC. Seniors get things together, hopefully can steal 1 win and while a big ask grabbing 2 wins isn't impossible.

No doubt there is the potential for big improvement in how the team is playing; thats what’s generating the frustration. I’m sure the team and staff are not happy either. Love this group of freshmen we have. Huge upside potential there, and all of this PT they are getting will provide huge dividends down the road.

Best part is they are playing well vs good competition, not vs a soft OOC. Taking a close look, the games vs Charleston, Hofstra and Long Beach State were all winnable in the last minute. Might not look like it at times, but I really believe the team is close to turning things around.

Agree, it takes time to learn how to win. I think the frustrations for fans are more the home struggles vs Marist and yesterday vs St Francis. Of course Marist represents our "worst loss".
As said ad nauseum, I think Os will help us to varying degrees on both ends, and eventually we'll stabilize into what we are--whatever that means, be it MAAC favorite, MAAC PIG team or something in between. But the fact of the matter, as Sharkey illustrates, is that our OOC is tougher than our MAAC slate--Marist notwithstanding.
And as also said out here quite often, I'd sign for a trip to Dayton (or wherever) in March right now.
