86, thanks. Ed Corbett, the father, was one of my favorite MAAC refs, along with Mike Kitts. And, I say MAAC refs, knowing that they have no ties to the League, but that they did a lot of MAAC games. My all time favorite ref, and I can't recall his name, but know that he worked for Villanova. He refed in the two man days. Need help with his name.
Hank Nichols? He played baseball for Nova and was a professor at the school. He was a longtime official doing Big East, ACC and A10 games. He also served as the NCAA National Officiating Coordinator of Men’s Basketball. He Reffed 6 NCAA Men’s Basketball Championship games, 10 NCAA Final Fours, three NIT Tournament Finals and two Olympics. He was also the first official to work the NCAA and NIT Championship Basketball Final in the same year. Is that your guy?
86, thanks. Yes, he is. My all time favorite ref. And, I have a suggestion for the MAAC. I'm not sure if the coaches still do this, but in the past they were asked to grade the refs' performance. So, at the end of the year the League honors Three Refs, who the coaches select as having done the best job in officiating MAAC games. At the very least we'll have three guys, who in the opinion of the coaches, weren't terrible. Any value to this? Might provide the MAAC with some pub.

Mickey Crowley would never get it!
Tim Higgins was a guy Iona fans dreaded, but can't remember the specifics why.

Couple of games, but the most flagrant was the loss to Fordham in the 1983 MAAC finals at the Meadowlands. Rory Grimes got crushed on a play with no call, That was followed by the Murphy heave at the buzer whuch won the game 54-53.

Manhattan grad Larry Lembo was always my favorite. Mainly because he would actually give it back to us drunken kids. Always good natured. One the refs that got it. He was also great at his job.

Big East fans hated him. He and his buddy Jim Burr played a key role in some of the worst blown calls in Big East history. He was probably the most hated ref in the nation at one point.
I got to like both Burr and Higgins, as I would run into both most summers at Saratoga. Burr, I believe, lived near Saratoga, while Higgins, along with his young son would travel up from NJ. Not sure, but I think they both worked Final Fours. As for Larry Lembo, it seemed he was always paired with Mickey Crowley. And if they were working a St. John's game it would be a good idea to bet on SJU.
