We won by one, and yes Burtt and Springer gone. This was the Iona team that started 17-1 and was in the USA Today top 25 in February. Connecticut Mutual Classic Hartford, CT December 28-29, 1984 Iona 68 • William & Mary 55 ( big comeback) Iona 55 • Connecticut 54 After 17-1, big blowout at Holy Cross. Finished regular season 26-4. Lost at same Hartford Civic Center in NCAA to Loyola Chicago 59-58--Harcraves missed fts.

Super, thanks. While I'm not sure, I think that Mickey Crowley was the ref.

This was Kennedy's second season 81-82. Lost ECAC championship to LIU at Nassau Coliseum in March 1981. Stevie "one punch" Burtt was ejected, and team folded after a comfortable first half lead. Iona had a 14 point lead in that game. Burt Sr. actually was the PG & Springer SG. Kennedy employed a big lineup with a frontline of Mike Ice 6’10, Kevin Vesey 6”10 & Ted O’Gorman 6’8”. LIU inched their way back from the foul line as half the team fouled out. One of the 5 worst losses in Gael history. www.nytimes.com/1981/03/08/sports/liu-topples-iona-and-captures-berth-in-ncaa-tourney.html

I made corrections and additions to my above post. Carey Scurry was the LIU player who played in the NBA and I copied and posted The NY Times article.

Pretty sure Calhoun was coaching UConn when we beat them Dominic Perno was HC. Calhoun came in 1986. UConn was the worst team in the Big East in 84-85, the year the Gaels beat them. I stand corrected. Not for the last time!

The years are catching up to me… 😁
