The MAAC has long been associated with a league with few good big men but a lot of VG guards. And, if that's still the case we can pretty much see how we stack up against the other MAAC teams by comparing our starting guards to the other top backcourts in the MAAC. Indications are that Njie and Reaves will be our starters and that gives me a good feeling about OUR backcourt. And, if someone beats either or both out for starting jobs, well that would make me feel even better.
But, here is where I need help. I know next to nothing about the best guards on the other MAAC teams. So, if anyone does, please voice your opinions. Thanks.

Will be hard for any of us to gauge the squads that have completely new backcourts, but of those, I'm quite certain ours is the best. But there are a few teams that return some guards, which makes them a bit more dangerous than others:
Manhattan: Winston and Rumpel Marist: Collins and Pascaraelli MSM: Hobbs Quinny: Lewis SPU: Tanksley and Zeigler Merrimack: Clark and Savage
Reaves is as good or better than anyone on this page. We'll see who rises up to join him in the backcourt as there are many options.
While this is a guard's league, frontcourts matter. Quinny is returning Tice and Otieno--that's the best returning frontcourt combo, by far. Other teams are returning frontcourt pieces, some more effective than others. Ours stacks up pretty well there, too.

Guy, thanks. Lewis (Quinny) is a VG passer, so whomever is playing OG for Quinnipiac will be a better player because of Lewis' skills. And when you throw in Tice and Otieno, I'm guessing that QU will be ranked at or near the top of the League.
P.S. Was Rumpel the Manhattan guard who was much hyped last year, but was injured and had to sit out the year? If so, teamed with Winston, he would give the Jaspers a VG BC.

I don't see how anyone would pick anyone other than Quinny to finish 1st. They have the most back from a team that finished 1st just a year ago. Balanc is a loss of course but they had decent depth last year.
Yes, re Manhattan. They took a huge portal loss in the frontcourt, but I agree they should move up the standings.
I would expect that most prognostications will have us in the top 3.

Maybe Quinnipiac will be this year's answer to Rider, who was picked first, last year.

Maybe Quinnipiac will be this year's answer to Rider, who was picked first, last year. Rider was so obviously the top preseason pick last year that you knew they wouldn't end up there. Can definitely see Quinny suffering a similar fate.
