As I had predicted, many of the players who rushed out the door seeking greener pastures or more playing time did not realize they were competing with not only existing D1 & D2 players but also high school, JUCO and foreign players.

An interesting analysis for someone who has time would be to see if a common thread exists with those 440 D1 transfers that didn't find a new home... conference (level) affiliations, MPG, PPG, recruit star rank (if any), etc... I'm thinking a good chunk of them shouldn't have been at the D1 level to begin with and now they're realizing the harsh reality.

Is there a stat for players that entered the Portal but never received an offer from another school. Did they return to their team? Or were they left w/o a scholarship?

Also interesting would be how many of these left on their own and how many were run off by the coaching staff. Probably will never know that stat.
