Lost in the news about our new President, was the news that John Sweeney, former president of the AFL-CIO was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom yesterday by President Obama. Others who received the medal yesterday was two of my first sports heroes, Stan Musial and Bill Russell, along with the first President Bush, and poet Maya Angelou. A most impressive group for an Iona grad to be included with. Congrats to John.
