Sorry I haven't been around too much. Very busy with work, family issues, and coaching Little League.
Some things a couple of us heard about tonight at a Goal Club meeting at Iona:
1. Expect to hear about the completion of our staff tomorrow.
2. Schedule doesn't appear to be too exciting. That Cleveland State tournament is a done deal, and the rest of the field is Kent State and Bryant. I'd have to think we'll face Kent State, as Bryant is by far the weakest of the 4 and thus would likely be Cleveland State's opponent in their own tourney. Otherwise, may be a guarantee game or two.
3. Iona is still recruiting, and is looking at bigs, and is looking to give out a ship for the upcoming season (as opposed to a transfer). A JUCO isn't out of the question.
Enjoy!

I'd guess there's a few bigs they could pull the trigger on right now, but are waiting to the last possible minute (5/19) to see if someone of greater impact may become available.
That said, with all the current Patsos rumors, I hope the prior staff left David Samuels phone number for Grasso.

Is there any chance that we won't have a DBO and use that money towards the third assistant's salary?

I'd imagine there will be another team. The story said the tournament would include Kent State, Iona, Bryant and Urbana - it didn't say it was the complete field. Why couldn't they have included the dates of the tournament - all the announcement said was that it was a season opening tournament? Wonder what Bryant and Urbana fans said when they heard Iona was one of the team included.

Urbana is a Div 2 and not a very good one..14-13 last year....Unless they manage to get a higher seed then Iona, it would be my guess that we may play Bryant...Hope so as it will not help our RPI, but it will still count in the won and lost column....Perhaps TC entered this 3rd rate tournament to ease into the season and see what he's got.
Along these line, is it so that we owe Albany a game up there....Was Fairleigh Dickinson a one shot deal, and I am not sure where we stand with Hampton, Norfolk State, LIU and William and Mary...Help appreciated.
Go Gaels!!!!!

OT Make that Di_kinson--as noted in Sarasota discussion, everytime you write di_k, it gets converted to "Thingy." Also, Cleveland State deal was done last November. I heard about it at the "Disney" tournament. Two years ago--the Carribean; last year--Orlando; next year--Cleveland!

OK, it appears the Urbana thing mentioned earlier was a goof by the writer. The field is the 4 teams, but it appears everyone plays everyone, which IS like it was at Iowa State. www.basketballtravelers.com/pages/m_wvclassic.htm

Interesting feature for participants:
Participant Guarantees Generous guarantees are available to tournament participants. Options are available to roll guarantees into a future foreign tour opportunity or participation in our U.S. Virgin Islands Paradise Jam tournament.

Quick look ref: Cleveland State tournament....
Kent State 24-10 last year lost in 2nd round of NIT to Illinois after beating Tulsa by 1 point at home..They lose 5 seniors, 3 of which started or played considerable minutes.....but have some good players returning...
Cleveland State 16-17 last year...All returning...A very good team in 08 was decimated by graduation..Had rebuilding job last lear...Team still young..Coach Gary Waters my need another year.....
Bryant......1-29 last year....Nothing much..This well funded team is trying hard to be respectable.....Not this year....
3-0 happy man......2-1 O.K......1-2 disappointing.....0-3 suicide watch....
Go Gaels!!!!!!!
