In all the discussion and pain since Monday night's loss, I have not seen any mention of one item. While at the moment, they may consider it little consolation, I would like to congratulate the two Gaels who were named to the MAAC All-Tournament Team. Scott and Mike were not only All-MAAC performers during the regular season, they continued to perform at the same level in the MAAC Toriunament. Scott, Mike and the entire team should know that all Gael alum and fans are exceedingly proud to have them representing Iona College. GO GAELS!

Congratulations to Mike and Scott. Next year, they will battle it out for MVP of the tournament, when the cut down the nets. I think I'll be pulling for Scott, as Mike will already have won POY.

Mr. Doom, agree wholehardily. B/t/w, I know Belin was Tourney MVP, and I'm guessing that Leon was also All Tourney, do you know who else made it?

Good for him. What a gutsy player he is. Playing through what they originally thought was a season ending injury, and leading his team to the NCAA's, beating the 1 and 2 seeds along the way. The more I think about, I am becoming convinced Iona simply ran into a "team of destiny". This was the last chance for Jenkins and his classmates, and probably for SPC for at least a few years. As much as winning would have meant to Iona, I bet it means 10 times as much to those seniors, the program and the school, and its fans, than it would have meant to Iona, which has a strong program and a great chance to win next year.

As you might recall, the MAAC actually names 6 players - 5 to the all tournament team and 1 Tournament MVP. This year all were from either Iona or St. Pete's. MVP - Jeron Belin
All- Tournment Team - Scott Machado Mike Glover Ryan Bacon Wesley Jenkins Nick Leon
Mike and Scott have today received additional awards. They were among 7 MAAC players named to the NABC (National Association of Basketball Coaches) Division 1 All-District teams. First Team - Mike Glover Ryan Rossiter Derek Needham Justin Robinson John Holland - Boston U. (half an Iona award - his dad was a Gael)
Second Team - Scott Machado Wesley Jenkins Anthony Nelson Evan James - Vermont Troy Barnies - Maine Gerald Lemore - Maine

One thing to note on the NABC districts - they are not geographic districts, they are divided up by conferences. We share district 1 with the Northeast Conference. The Big East has its own district - district 5. No player from St. Chicken, Rutgers or Seton Hall made their 1st or 2nd teams. Charles Jenkins was 1st team in Hofstra's district and LIU had a 1st and 2nd teamer in their district. If logic were to dictate, the Haggerty Award (top metro area college player) would seem to be between Mike and Charles Jenkins. But since politics may dictate more than logic, I would suspect that it will actually turn out to be between Jenkins and St. Chicken's Hardy. Either way, I think Jenkins should win this year.

Machado deserved first team over Needham, who was exposed during the later part of the season. He's not a PG and fortunately for FF, they'll have a real PG, next year, when Wade becomes eligible.

If Cooley stays. Providence job opening up, Cooley already linked to it as is Dunne.
And Slice is officially out at Manhattan.

Dunne did a great job in the MAAC Championship Game confusing us and taking us out of our game. Don't know if I hope he takes the Providence job as I believe that it is an IMPOSSIBLE job to be successful in. With the growth and talent in the Big East, schools like Providence, Seton Hall, South Florida, Rutgers, etc. will have a very hard time recruiting and competing each year.

Prior to the MAAC tourney, Dunne had apparently already thrown his name in for the Monmouth job.

The guy has already pulled off one Houdini - taking SPC from a 6 win season to MAAC Champ with very limited resources. By comparison, Rick Majerus took over a 20 win SLU program 4 years ago, got a brand new 11,500 seat on campus arena, doubled his predecessor's salary to $1 million; and managed to win 12 games this season.
