This might be premature, as we're not sure if there will be anymore games or not, but I thought I'd put this out now anyway for anyone who wants to comment at this point.
Cluess - I think he did a great job in his first year, given the learning curve, introducing a new style of play, dealing with injuries. Very tough start in Cleveland. But I was especially impressed with the season ending seven game win streak. He had the team peaking at the right time. Got us to the final of the MAAC tournament, new ground for this team. While I feel we are a better team than SP's and we missed a big opportunity Monday night, all in all as a fan I'm very pleased with the job he did.
The Team - congrats to these guys for giving a great effort this year. Alejo playing with lingering injuries. Smythe with concussion effects. Mike with a shoulder problem. Dwight with an achilles problem. Pelch with a foot problem. These guys played through injuries and gave a great effort in the tournament. Games of note, Richmond and Syracuse. A couple of stinkers also, Bryant and Vermont, but you get that every season.
Newcomers - Mike, 'nuff said. Armand looks to have a bright future. Randy a lot of energy. James - gets a pass in my opinion. Put in a tough spot late in the season. Kesic - incomplete evaluation.
The Schedule - all in all not bad as we played a lot of 20 win teams, but it could've been better. No desire to see us play Norfolk State, FDU, or Albany. Would rather see Army, Fordham, i.e. traditional rivals.
Monday night. I really feel like the problem here is that at times, in big games, our program has a history of teams that press and try too hard, if that is possible. Perhaps we need some guys who "care" a little less. We seem to get in these spots and trip all over ourselves trying to do too much, too fast, to get it done. Maybe we need to recruit less talent and more guys with "ice water" in the veins.
Post season tourneys - I think it would be crazy to pass up any post season opportunities, but I don't pay the bills. Maybe Sister Susie can pony up $50k for a "C" tourney. A chance in the NIT might be what the DR ordered right now. But I'll take any post season tourney. I don't see how it could hurt the team to play more.
Post season predictions. Manhattan Job opens - will Grasso be a candidate?
Recruiting - Williams looks like a player, but will he quallify? The kid from the Texas Juco verballed, but haven't heard another thing about him. I think we have another kid, Rashard James? set for next year too. We only have two scholarships open, so anyone who can educate me about this would be helpful.
