Needham isn't the issue, it's the transfers they have coming in. I don't think Needham is a great player, but their transfers could be.

Sanders will be in his 5th year in 2011-2012, so his only options are D2 or FF. Wade would have 2 years at FF, but only one year if he transfers elsewhere. I doubt many D1 schools would hold up a scholarship for two years, to get a guy for one, especially one who isn't that great. I think he would probably have to go low D1 or D2. Sanders looks like a potential star in the MAAC, though his shooting percentage has always been low. I don't get the hype over Wade. He averaged 5.7 pts and 4.8 assists in conference that isn't all that much better than the MAAC, he's only 5'8", and isn't much of a shooter. On the plus side, he rarely turns the ball over. I'd expect him to be a solid, but unspectacular PG in the MAAC.

gaelman, if I were a FF fan, I'd be very happy with Wade since it looks like he's a pretty good PG, and now, IMO, they don't have a PG. Since Needham doesn't like to give up the ball it will be interesting to see how he takes to playing off the ball. Chemistry will be a concern, but if it works out the Stags will have a super fast/quick backcourt. In the MAAC their lack of size shouldn't be much of a problem, even if they have to use booster seats when riding in a car.

Their new coach will be facing a very pleasant task (much as TC did when coming to Iona) of dealing with a team that is designed to win now. That does put the pressure on the FF administration. They cannot afford to bring in a new HC who will need a few years of OTJ training. Last year Pat Lyons took the gamble and that gamble has paid off for both Iona and for Pat. It will be very interesting to watch how this plays out at FF. BTW, I saw in a couple spots that this is the first time that a coach has left FF to go upwards rather than being "let go".
