Today is the day. It may be the only time we ever, I repeat ever, see a post season championship played at our building. We should all take a minute and enjoy what is happening.

Think about it; we're on the eve of opening day in baseball, and IONA IS PLAYING!

Even Craig Carton gave a shoutout to the Iona gaels around 9:45 this morning. Carton hasn't mentioned us all season, as far as I know--and he's from friggin' New Rochelle.

And now that it's gameday I thought I'd give you guys the latest from RealTimeRPI.
Our current RPI is 57. This is the best RPI of an Iona team since 1998. With a win tonight, it will probably stay about the same. A loss would probably drop it about 10 points.
The MAAC is still 16th, and with an Iona win won't quite pass the Ivy as I was hoping. SPC has a 93 RPI, Fairfield a 95.
Re our CIT foes, Valpo is at 81, Buffalo at 139, ETSU at 89.
Santa Clara is at 131 today. The WCC is at 14. Santa Clara's top wins are vs Gonzaga at home (50) and vs Northern Colorado (98). Statistically, a win for Santa Clara today would be their best win of the season, since it would be a road game against a team similar to Gonzaga in RPI.
Any questions?

Like that story. I totally agree that the way Iona is now playing they could have won a few games in the tourney. Iona should have been in the NIt, it shouldn't matter that there was already a Maac team in it.
I'll go one step further, if you look at VCU's resume you could argue that Iona's was just as good.
If we win Iona will be a deserving CIT champion. Gaels are simply the best team in the field, and if you ask me they are one of the best team not in the NCAA's.
This team had as good a shot as any Iona team to win an NCAA game or two. Now they have to go ahead and get a post season championship to try to prove this.

MTS got banned from the other Sienna Board for comparing Sienna to VCU. You may have to ban yourself from your own Board.

Nice story, but to compare Iona to VCU is just absurd. Anybody who thinks Iona could have been VCU in the tourney has not been watching the tournament. This is not a knock - I love this team and am proud of their accomplishments. I even believe we could have won a game in the NCAA's. No way this team was going to the final four. It is nice to be getting all the positive press.
