For the basis of this thread, I'm assuming that we'll get a PF/C from a JUCO and that will leave us with one more scholarship. I see the following options: 1. An Isaiah Williams clone. An OG/SF type. 2. Another big. 3. A PG. And red-shirt him.
Assuming that all potential recruits (to fill the above three options) are fairly equal in talent, and I know that's a pretty far fetched assumption, I'm going with #3. That way our new PG gets to practice with the team for a year. I think it's scary to go into a season ('12-13) with a rookie PG. That's my take, what's yours?

I agree that we should not go into 12-13 with a freshman PG. I think a great recruiting strategy would be to try to recruit a big man and a point guard together, every other year. That way, assuming they pan out, you would always have an upper classman at PG and C, where experience is most important. I'm on the fence as to whether the PG should be redshirted. With the depth we will have there, I guess it makes sense, but there is no substitute for the experience of playing in games. But, I suppose if the PG is mainly sitting behind SM and JJ he won't get much game experience anyway.

Before this season started, I posted that Trinity Fields should be redshirted. I stand by that. Maybe next season?

I too expect a PG. But I doubt we could get a good one who is willing to redshirt.

Please 2 new Bigs. All we have now is a great one in Glover and a work-in-progress. While a PG would be nice he is not going to help next year. Also while I like Fields and how he bounced back this year after being forgotten early, to me he is really a combo guard.

I would give it to the best 1, 4/5 athlete available and take it from there... mid-majors don't always have the luxury of being highly selective. Give it to the best athlete that can play either of those spots. I'd also have to think there's a direct relationship between the level of player we might get and available pt opportunity. That is, we may not look too attractive to a top PG recruit with Scott, Trinity and JJ still around, but pt will look a lot better the following year - and perhaps (because of that) we'll attract a higher level player (even though it may necessitate a freshman pg). Not to worry, Cluess will figure it all out. On second thought, just call up David Samuels and give it to him.

I'm on the Davis Samuels "type" bandwagon. I was impressed with the recent film I watched.
We don't need to redshirt a PG. If he's good enough he'll split time with Scott. Scott had bad games and bad half games. I'd certainly play a new pg at the expense of Fields and JJ. That's life. You earn your time on ability. Maybe Cluess plays a longer bench now that he know's what he has. Plus I don't expect Kyle to be 100% until second half of the season. If he's got a busted up shoulder socket it's a 6-9 month process. He's fortunate that it's not his shooting arm. He plays very hard. He uses up his rubber fast and has been banged up every year. He may need to adjust his playing style if he wants to play 4 years.
GuyF at one point mentioned Jayon James has the ability to play point. While he looks like a PF to me, it will be interesting to see what a healthy off season does for him.

I think J. James will take over at point, provided we can get some quality bigs, then this makes Iona an extremely dangerous team with lots of length, of course getting the quality bigs isn't easy!

I think we should go big, we looked undersized vs Santa Clara.

Obviously things can change with recruiting...but just from speaking with a few of the guys on the team since the CIT final I have been hearing two bigs ... Gibson being one and the other being in the Alejo mold, unfortunately I haven't heard a name mentioned
Coupled with all the guys we have returning, there is definitely reason to be optimistic for next year, hopefully we can get over the "Championship Game" hump...

I have to say I am much happier with "The Championship Game Hump" then I am with what we had previous to that. Let's just get to the Championship game next year and worry about the hump whe we get there

We've got more humps than a flippin' camel. I'd like us to simply get over the no hump, hump.

There are a couple of bigs who are transfering after this semester. One we were after previously Gene Teague ,and the other Dan Jennings both local kids about 6-9 260 or so.I dont know what interest if any we have ,but we can take a transfer without using a current ship like we did with Rashard James.
