The Goal Club had its MTC event at Wykagyl the other night. It's the event that used to be held at Mo's. I didn't post sooner, because I didn't learn much. I will say that Wykagyl provides a beautiful setting for the event, and I did speak with all of the coaches, Men's and Women's, though it was just to say good night to TC. I figured that since Guy and EPatrick were talking to TC, that if there was any info to be gotten, they would have gotten it.
Tony B. was his usually positive self, and he did confirm, what I thought, that Martinez would have the most impact as a Frosh. Having Suzi at the point should be a big step in righting the ship, and when she graduates, he expects Powell to be the PG. Martinez will play the two guard. Michigan State and Villanova will play in our tourney, and we'll get the winner of their game. He has two additions to his staff, as Cooke is going to play in Europe, and I'm not sure who else is leaving, but both guys were at the affair, and easy to talk to.
On the Men's side, I'll throw out the following:
*Schedule-Still need about four more games, with coaches complaining that other teams know we're loaded and are reluctant to play us. We've all heard that story before, so I'm guessing we'll have a couple of MEAC games. No big names mentioned but that doesn't mean anything.
*Mo Mo-Coaches reply when asked about him, "We can't talk about him." I'll take that as a positive.
*The four new JUCO bigs-Who will make the biggest contribution? They'll all contribute. I take that as none are stars but all can play. Others were told that Ridley was the best, but that wasn't the answer I got.
*What year will Gomez make a meaningful contribution? Every coach I spoke with said this year, and that he'd be a surprise. Mark me down as skeptical.
*Kyle's health-He should be 100% by the end of the summer. Best news of the night.
*Which player do you expect to have a break out year? Two coaches, two answers. Kyle and Sean.
*Summer school-Everyone should be there for the second semester, early July to early August. Good opportunity to see some pick up games, after Camp ends at 5PM.
*Rashard James-Entire Staff is in agreement, "Wait until you see him".
*Recruiting for '12-Definitely after two PG's (assuming no Mo Mo, or another PG turning up this year)), and they feel we'll get two good ones.
While short on info, all the coaches were a pleasure to talk to. A nice night, that for some (not me)ended after 10PM. Also, an opportunity to say Good Bye to Will.
