Wow. Helluva job by Cluess and staff!
Love to know the chances of him getting the hardship waiver... imagine Glove, Scotty and Momo on the floor at the same time? That's some serious talent!
If he doesn't get the waiver, we'll need a top notch big to join him the year after next.

This is especially great news for 12/13. Next years team is loaded at Guard and of course Glover. I think we may see a lot of 4 guards and Glover.

I have a couple of people I deal with at work from tuscon and they are big fans of Arizona and this is what they had to say:
"Love him. You’ll love him. He’s a fiery guy...he sliced up Duke in the Sweet 16 and he single-handily beat Cal in a 3OT game. I don’t usually care when a guy transfers, because it’s not a guy that has made an impact, but in 2 years Momo’s confidence and bravado really helped Arizona basketball get back on track. I was looking forward to him playing his last 2 years on some great Arizona teams, but he apparently was homesick and wanted to be near his ailing grandmother back East. Some say he transferred because we have one of the top point guards in the nation coming in, along with another top 10 guard, and he would’ve played less, which is true, but along with Derrick Williams he was the glue of this Arizona team. He will be missed. I think Iona will love him and he’ll fit right in there. He’s not a great shooter, but he can take it to the hoop with serious authority. And when he gets hot, his shot drops...he hits big-time shots too...the bigger the shot, the better his is. I know a lot of Arizona fans miss him and wish him the best. JP
The second guy commented the following after reading the first guys reply:
"Plus, he’s a natural 2. He’s not really a point guard at all, and he struggled at times in that roll. If Iona is already set at the point, he’ll fit in nicely. I wish him, and the Gaels all the best. Iona has always been my favorite MAAC team."
Sounds like a great get!

From ESPN Rumor Central:
In a bit of a surprise, Lamont "MoMo" Jones has decided to transfer to Iona.
Adam Zagoria of ZagsBlog.com first reported the news this morning, and indicated that Jones visited Iona last Friday and again Wednesday morning before making the decision. Zagoria reported that Jones also visited Seton Hall and considered Hofstra and UMass.
"After taking visits to the local schools I felt a good connection with Coach [Tim] Cluess] of Iona," Jones said in a statement sent by his adviser, former Seton Hall and St. John's assistant Dermon Player, to ZagsBlog.com. "I want to thank Seton Hall, Hofstra and UMass as well as South Florida and Marquette for their interest. I want to thank my family and my adviser, coach Dermon Player for helping me in the process.
Under Cluess, Iona was one of the fastest paced teams in the nation last season and now with Jones in the fold, expect the Gaels to continue to play even more up-tempo. If Jones is able to play this season, as Jon Rothstein of CBSSports.com tweeted earlier, then expect a backcourt of Scott Machado and Jones and an even more dynamic year from Michael Glover. Iona will still be considered the preseason favorite without Jones but if he is able to play immediately, Iona should have one of the top non-BCS conference squads.
Jones, who averaged 9.7 points, 1.6 rebounds and 2.4 assists per game as a sophomore with Arizona last season, may or may not have to sit a year before joining the Gaels.

Iona should have one of the top non-BCS conference squads!
Big time statement, top 25 not so crazy after all. Gaels need to go to Puerto Rico and win at least 2.
Guys I know on following e-mail exchanges keep saying he is really a 2. The whole move makes more sense to me after hearing this.
This also makes him a great guy to play along side a blue chip Frosh PG in 12/13. Armand and Smyth at the 3 and 4 in the Galloping Gael 4 guard offense.

Yeah, plus we should be able to attract a top flight forward for 2012, I would think.
