Wow!!! Another big day for the Gaels. Better make those Puerto Rico reservations now! Can't wait for the season to begin. Even if he is not eligible this will help with recruiting. Fantastic!

If I'm not mistaken, this is the highest profile player we've landed since Gary Springer, Sr.

Yeah, plus we should be able to attract a top flight forward for 2012, I would think. Exactly. His presence should influence a lot of talented front court players. Also, anyone know what the timeline might be on the waiver decision? Lastly, also comical that he never gave Hayseed Nation a sniff.

I was driving south to Virginia today when my cell phone started lighting up with texts about today's news. I just wanted to join in. As I said earlier to joebird, I have total faith that Scott and MoMo (if they get to play together) will be one of the top guard combos in the nation - MoMo is a natural off-guard who only converted to point at Arizona. I also still feel that the waiver is a very real possibility. Either way, as has been mentioned here, this is a get that will pay dividends in our ongoing recruiting. Congrats to the entire staff! GO GAELS!

Mr. Doom you did say it and as my boys from Tuscon confirmed you are right. We are either going to be absolutely loaded next year or have a great backcourt already in place for two more years after, either way I will take it.
To Ct Bill, I think the highest profile player that actually played a game for Iona since the Springer era is Sean Green.

Nice pick up by Cluess. Iona seems absolutely loaded at guard next season. Who is going to play wing ? Pelcher, Glover, and James seem to be enough at the PF and Center positions

Pelcher is gone, leaving a hole in the middle.

I wonder what the other guards think of this: Jenkins, Fields, Smyth, James and especially Armand? If he sits out I can't see this being much of an issue but if he plays will all these kids stay?
The biggest impact Mo Mo can have if he is eligible next season is give Iona much much needed tournament experience, and experience winning in the tourney. This is something the 11/12 Gaels desperately need if they are truly a sweet 16 sleeper as one ESPN blogger wrote.

Joebird, your first point was the typical negative Joebird we've all come to know and love. I will say that every kid has an opportunity to prove himself to the staff and earn minutes. The senior guards won't be leaving, we know that. And Armand and Smyth won't be losing that many minutes. Plus, if MoMo plays, they all know how good they can be, and their chances of not only reaching the NCAAs but doing something there. Don't OVERestimate the egos of these kids. Your second point was absolutely brilliant and I thank you for bringing that up. His experience--and that of our now-year-older kids--will be HUGE this season for this team. And I believe that to be the case even if MoMo has to sit out.

That's me! Mostly very pessimistic but occasionally overly optimistic!
This team has a chance to do what we have dreamed of since the disappointing ending in 1980! This doesn't come around too often, about once a generation.
On a side note I would love this team to get a feature game in the Garden. If there ever was a year to do it, this year is the time. Maybe with an ESPN backing, Gaels can play a game there against a BCS team and ESPN could cover it.
I do think one of Iona Fairfield matches will get on ESPN2 this year as well, and Iona has a great chance for an ESPN bracket buster home game

It would be a great year to get into the Holiday Festival in the Garden and maybe face St. Johns.
