Whose the best High School player youve ever seen in person?(actually in a game),not in clips or on tv. Bored out of my mind and cant go out in the Sun with my injured left hand.
For me,its Kenny Anderson from Molloy and its not even close. My brother played against him for years, from grammar school thru High school. Such a smooth game and can rebound wiht the bigs for his skinny frame. He played with some good players at Molloy also. Rob Werdann(SJU),Steve Frazier(Miami) also John Dunne.

Benjamin Franklin HS on 116th St near the FDR Drive with a loaded team--Need help here guys but wasn't Sidney Green also on that team along with 1-2 other D1 notables?
School was closed shortly threafter due to poor student performance. It was then reorganized into a magnet school for Math (and maybe Science).

I don't know where Sidney Green played, but don't think it was at Ben Franklin. Guys who played there with Gary were: 1. Richie Adams (UNLV) 2. Walter Berry (SJU) 3. Kenny Hutchison (ARK)
Quite a team.

Bob Mathias, Clarkstown North 1972. Averaged 30 ppg and 22 rpg at 6'7" and 230lbs. Never lost a game to a Rockland opponent and had 4 County titles. He was the best player on the court when he squared off against the star studded Mount Vernon Teams with Gus Williams, Earl Tatum, and Rudy Hackett. If he had played in Westchester or Long Island he would have been State player of the year. He was a High School All American. His 1972 team captured the Section 9 Class A championship ... that was the farthest his team could go, since there was no New York State tournament at that time.

That's an easy one for me..Lew Alcindor. I went to Power Memorial and got to see him play quite often. I was a freshman when he was a senior but my brother was 2 years in front of me so I went to games before I got there. Most dominant high school player I've ever seen.

Super... did you ever see Earl “The Goat” Manigault play at Ben Franklin? He was tearing up the public school league when Jabbar was killing in the CHSL. In fact the Alcindor vs Manigault matchup was going to happen for the city championship but "the Goat" got tossed off his high school team a day before the game. Another great Ben Franklin product was Billy "White Jesus" Rieser... did anyone here see him play?

(Didn't they both play at UNLV?--on the team we beat in overtime at the Meadowlands in the early days of ESPN?)

I did see him play in the early days of Rucker--before it became such a widely publicized locale. He was unbelievable--although he had the extra step "walk" long before it became the norm.

Super, I'm pretty sure you're correct about Green and Adams, and we did defeat them, but I'm not sure if it was at MSG or the Meadowlands, even though I was at the game. Adams had a tragic ending, as I believe he was found guilty of murder. And didn't Green's son play for Florida's NCAA championship team a few years back?
