LOI can only be signed during the two specific signing periods. Anyone we pickup after signing period would be a verbal (and thus subject to change of mind) until such time as he actually enrolls in school. I guess we are assuming that Keon's surgery is related to his achilles tendon, or did somone specify why he had surgery? Also, does anyone know the reason for Alejo's surgery? With the defections of prior commits and now with Keon and Alejo in the questionable category, this really puts pressure on front court additions. I agree with ic59 that Ben had the looks of contributor. The recent signing just wiped out the minutes he was to inherit from Milan. Just thought I would show you guys that I could re-state the obvious.

Guy...Can LOI, still or need to be signed?.....and is it possible that the PG you mentioned will be a High School senior this coming season?.... With two ships, and if one is a true power forward who could also give fill in time at Center, the recruiting of James becomes more in line with team concept....Thanks also for rundown..... Go Gaels!!!!!! LOIs still exist, if that's what you mean. I just don't think they "mean" as much these days. I'm pretty certain Armand has signed an LOI. Thought he did so not long after committing to us. Jayon James seems to be a more offense-minded version of Rashard McGill, 6-6, athletic, good ball skills. We may not have a lot of beef up front and will end playing 3 and even 4 guards at times, but if we're running that will negate the impact of that. Cluess pretty much said last night that the team will HAVE to run more to get more points on the board. Seems like an obvious thing to say, but you know what he meant.

Cluess stated he expected big things out of him, wanted to make him a "14 and 10 type of guy". We'll need it.

ic59, I am very forgettable! Don't know why "my friends" were unable to attend.

Since summer school at Iona starts next Tuesday. . .hopefully the 2 open slots will be filled and enrolled at that time.
The new coaches were surprised that although we led the MAAC in 3 point shooting last year, in the recent practice/drills a number or our players need significant improvement in their outside shooting.
The coaches singled out Machado on working hard on his shooting, Smyth for his effort on all the drills and the players on general for wanting to win the MAAC and get to the NCAAs.
Expect our team to press more, shoot 3s better and the guards rebounding more in Cluess’ system so future recruiting will reflect these qualities.
Willard did a great job of turning around the program and while he probably left too early Cluess and his staff clearly have more years in coaching experience behind them so we could be in for some fun years.

Thanks for all the updates.
Sorry to see the Brit bomber go, but he made a wise choice. Best of luck to him, I hope he gets plenty of minutes in the NEC.
The frontcourt situation is now a bit of concern... we could really use Laury and Leonard right now. Let's hope both A-Rod and Keon fully recover from their surgeries.

Old Spice is a combination of interest and rotation. I wasn't sure what you meant by "interest", but I do now. Apparently other MAAC schools who were asked by the MAAC to participate turned it down. Which is intensely stupid. Why the hell would you not want to play 3 higher-profile games on the ESPN networks while giving your players (and fans) a tremendous travel experience. Kudos to Iona for realizing the benefits.

Chaz Williams could be the pg. He would have to sit out next year. Would take over for Scott. I think he would have 3 years with us.

Anyone have any idea how serious the knee was and what type of surgery?

One further comment from last night that I like, Coach Cluess said his goal for next year is to average close to 20 assists per game with improved sharing the ball and shooting.

Providence, Rutgers and La Salle are possible destinations for Williams, who averaged 9.8 points and 4.2 rebounds last season for the Pride. “I’m just going to see what interest I get and just weigh my options,” he said. www.zagsblog.com/2010/05/19/chaz-williams-to-transfer-from-hofstra/

Chaz Williams is an awesome talent. He was my thought when Guy referred to a G not available until 2011-12. If you haven't seen him play you can't appreciate just how good he is. Reminds me of an undersized, overachieving St. Ray's player who starred at Arkansas for 4 years.
Tau, what is your read on Chaz?

Chazz Williams would start on some Big East teams right away, which is where I think he ends up. Charles Jenkins will miss him at Hofstra. HE would be a great addition
