For a first game, some rust, some things to work on. The talent's there. That call on Machado for the fifth foul was bogus. But I expect good things from this team. Keep your heads up boys. Get'em tomorrow.

The year begins, like last year ended.

I thought that the Purdue 3 from half court to end the first half was a harbinger of bad things.
I thought Momo tried to do too much, especially on the next to last possession.
Tough loss. We need to beat Western MIchigan tomorrow.
Go Gaels!!!

gaels played well offensively, scotty was a star. Taaj Ridley is someone who has great touch around the rim, a nice 15 foot jumper, and a smart player who puts himself in a lot of good spots for scotty and momo to find him.
defense in the first half was pathetic and nothing to write home about in the second half either....the effort and rotation needs to improve, but its early in the season so i think by january things will mesh better
Gaels are very deep, very talented. I would have liked to see armand play a few more minutes and for glover to get a few more touches.

Definetley a ton of talent on this team. They have to get tougher. Momo gave up after getting bumped on the last screen. Last possession to win a game you have to find a way to get through that screen and whoevers man set the screen should of been helping. Everyone in the building knew they were going to get Hummel the ball. Defense was awful to say the least. Purdue is very well coached. Iona will win a lot of games this year, but needs to get tougher and play much better defense (help side) to have a special year. Go Gaels!!

Mike looked very tired to me. I didn;t like seeing him take the ball up or play outside the arc.
These guys are talented and can score the ball. We could use a little "D". We showed that we could play defense, but those performances are few and far between. If we keep scoring 90 it may not matter with many of our opponents. But with the bigger schools, our defense hurts us.
Go Gaels!!!

Agree, great overall effort...the guys showed no quit! The defense needs work but I think coach will shore that up.
Looks like we found the other Big to play along Glover. Ridley is a heady player with some serious skills.
Lets move on: Beat Western Mich and whoever we face in the 5th place game. I still see 2-1 as an attainable goal.

I thought they should have tried to get more direct post touches for Glover. They bring him out on the floor way to high and too much. If he gets more post touches and scores it will open it up more for the other guys.

Momo got hip checked on that Hummel 3. Refs called ticky tac fouls on us it seemed. Glover does not help on defense and looked out of shape. Why did Armand get so little time in 2nd half?
Great game, we need to beat WEstern Michigan by 20 tomorrow

i thought dezouvre played too much...hes a solid defender but his bball IQ is low and offensively very tight, has an unorganized feel
... a few of his minutes should have gone to armand

Not going to get that call at the end of the game. After seeing the replay a couple of times I don't believe it was a foul. You have to dig in and find a way to get around the screen especially the last play of the game. End of game situation like that they should have switched the screen anyways. Nobody but Hummel was going to shoot the last shot.

I am just so sick of losing every single close game to good schools. Iona just never wins a last second game. This has been going on for over 30 years. I really can't even say much more at this time because I am just so frustrated with the same ending year after year. You can forget an at large, Iona has no more games against big schools, that is why they had to win and get a chance at temple. All that matters as usual is the 3 games in March. I expect a last second loss to Fairfield on that Monday.

Tough loss for Iona but you guys are gonna storm the MAAC this year. It probably won't happen but an 18-0 season isn't off the table. Gaels will be 17-1 or 16-2 easily.

joebird, stay away from sharp objects for a while. I thought of you when purdue knocked down the half court three at the end of the first half (after I stopped spewing obscenities).
This was disappointing. We could surely use 2 wins in this tournament. No question that we can score. Is there any defense out there, Gaels?
Go Gaels!!!
