I have been waiting for this Friday's game at Fairfield all season. How many do you think will make the trip to this important Road Game ? I'd love to think 1,000 or more Gaels fans would go. It's a Friday Night nationally televised game. I think it is going to be a really entertaining and tight game.

dan, you are probably correct about the game being close. But since the game is on TV, I doubt that many Iona fans will make the trek to B-port. Even though the attendance will be just about all FF, I would expect about 4K attendance. I do hope that I'm wrong about Iona support.

I hope the Gaels fans consider that there is nothing like seeing the game live and that place can hold a lot of people. It would be good for the schools and the MAAC to pack it out.

One game at a time boys. We have to beat Siena tomorrow night. I'm worried this is a trap game, between two nationally televised games and we've beaten them by 35 already.
We need to focus on Siena.
I plan to be at the FF game.

Heading up 95 north on a Friday evening is no fun, I am watching on TV as I think most who don't live close to Bridgeport will do.

Yes, traffic sucks on I95 north, especially on Fridays.
My suggestion: drive to train station (New Ro, Mamaroneck, Rye, etc) and take train to BPort. Also, the school should set up a bus to the train station and set up a manageable fee that includes train and game tickets.

The game reminds me of the scrimmage against Quinny, also on a Friday. Took the team bus about three hours to make the trip to Hamden. Team arrived just before the scheduled start time, and reportedly had no/little warmup time. If I remember correctly.

Realize I commented in the wrong thread--forget what I said re getting to the game, because the Iona women play an equally important game vs Marist and they need our support, too! So, attend whichever game is easier for you to get to!

Ah, one of the things that I do NOT miss in covering the Iona hockey team. That is why I used to like Saturday road games because the traffic was a "little bit better". Aldo don't miss the arctic rinks at Fairfield (how the Drurys ever made it to the NHL after visiting that rink is beyond me) and Bentley (the coldest spot known to mankind) and some of the worst bus drivers Coach USA employed.

Nothing against the Lady Gaels, but they could be playing UCONN in the NCAA Championship game and it would not be as important as a regular season Men's game against Canisius or Marist.

These young women work just as hard as the men to represent Iona, and they have done a fabulous of promoting Iona over the years. Look at how much recognition the Marist women have garnered for Marist - far more than the men. I get all the reasons anyone may enjoy men's basketball more than the women's game. Their contribution is just as important as the men. In fact they carried the BB banner when the men were going through the 2 win season. We love our women! Always have, always will.

They carried the banner for all of the 200 people in the stands. Most of which were friends and family. You can love them and root for them, but come on, womens basketball is a 2 on a scale of 10 compared to the men's game in fan interest.

OK, let me save us all some time and say there are going to be some very mixed views on this topic. Please let's not rip women's hoops on the whole here, as I know some involved with the program read the board
As for me, yeah, my "loyalty" goes to the mens' team first, and as such I'll be in Bridgeport Friday night. Of course, BPort is also far closer to my house. That said, if the men were not playing, or if they were playing a road game that I couldn't get to, I'd be at the women's game, hoping to finally get over the top against Giorgis.
Again--there are some out here who simply can't get into the women's game, and that's fine. But let's not condemn the sport on the whole here out of respect of those in the Iona community who are very much fans of all that Tony's done for Iona.

I was hoping that with more on campus students, the fan chatter would evolve beyond a commuter school level of interest in a team like this. Sadly, Hynes will never be a Cameron Indoor Stadium in enthusiasm and we won't travel well as fans.

I for one was not trying to "rip" the women's team. I do respect all of the college athletes. All schools (with the possible exception of (Tennessee and UCONN) don't show up at arenas anywhere close to the men's teams. That is just the way it was and is.
