Makes you wonder where we're going to be next year without Glover and Machado, as the MAAC will be MUCH stronger. MUCH stronger.
The window of opportunity is closing.

The question is: can they realize that playing as a team; they individually look very good, playing individually you and your team look like you suck!

Saw Carmello Anthony the other night down the stretch of the Knick game v. Denver. He took shot after shot with guys draped on him while his teammates were open. He looked selfish and stubborn and the Knicks lost. He's a great player though.

Foul trouble. We have productive players on the bench who haven't gotten enough game time minutes to make adequate contribution. Fields, Jermel were capable last year. The focus on the starting five will bite us in the tournament if we get a game of bad calls.
As for Armand if he goes he goes. Smyth will just need to shoot more.

Jermel with 5 minutes. Fields with no minute. Give me a break. Jones 1/3 of shots taken.

Good points by IChoops. Trinity Fields is forever a mystery to me.... thought he would be the next Rory Grimes (81-85) after seeing him @ Cardoza (sp) HS in Queens (29 points 15 assists against a Lance Stephenson led & eventual city champion Lincoln HS ). The gaels couldn't put the ball in the hudson river last night...plain and simple. The worst coached game of Cluess's tenure.

We're gonna get games with bad calls, bad luck. We're gonna have games where we don't shoot well. Instead of whining about it like we do, me included, we need to man up and get past it. We need to figure out how to get it done. We got enough talent, the players are smart enough. Just do it.
And when we have leads in games, teams are gonna make runs. Did anyone think Siena would end the game with 2 pts last night? When they make a run, don't rush shots and panic. Just play defense and stay within yourselves.
Holy freakin' smokes. It ain't rocket science.

1. Mostly agree with the last umpteen posts.
2. There are many things that I don't understand, but basketball isn't metaphysics. I will never understand this game, so close to the (presumably learned) Manhattan lesson.
3. Thank God for Mike Glover.

What do we think the odds are now of Iona winning 3 in Springfield? I would say about 35% chance.

It is clear to me at least that Coach T.C. and his staff have yet learned to deal with the pit falls of Divsion 1 baskeball. They appear to be paralyzied when faced with game tempo changes. It will be a learning process. I feel the recent success of the team has left them with the fear of losing control of a game. This fear has left us with great unpredictability which will lead us IMO to be a No Line team. All is not yet lost, but expectations will have to lowered.

These are my feelings:
Tecnical fouls from the bench=Coach losing control of his team
Dirth of coaching ability= how did we do against St Peter's and Santa Clara in those finals last year. i never saw coaching adjustments? This year more of the same how can you blow big,big leads and not recover. The opposing team is never out of the game.
Player leadership= when the chips are down who is our leader?
Momo's excess plaing minutes= team dissension.
Results= we are overated due to all the above reasons.

I think we should bribe the kids with hookers--win by 30, each player gets a hooker. You won't see us blow any more leads. :-)
Seriously, the issue I have is that we are too often letting opponents dictate tempo. We have advantages of depth and speed--we should press and trap for 40 minutes, not just a few minutes here and there, and not just that 1-man token pressure. I don't care if guys like Diggs and Rashad James are raw guys who aren't great scorers--they can cause havoc defensively and are doing NOTHING sitting on the bench. Instead, we go with the same 5 or 6 guys, and as a result we get roped into a halfcourt game, which doesn't work when a) you have no true center and b) you want to just shoot 3s.
Hey, I'm sure Cluess has used some of these philosophies all his coaching life. And if you're not a "depth guy", that's fine--but you don't have the personnel to grind it out with ANYONE. Iona games have to be track meets, and you have to MAKE that happen with pressure defense and attacking the rim on offense. YOU dictate the tempo--especially if you have a roster that's pretty darn well built to execute such a system.
Finally, when all else fails, you HAVE to make some adjustments in game. Iona had no one who could find the net from the perimeter last night--and Armand takes 1 shot in limited minutes? Siena's offense was efficient last night, and it doesn't seem like Iona played a "poor" defensive game--so why ride a cold Smyth or a chuck-mode Momo? Hey, maybe Armand (or Jenkins or Trinity) come in and brick too, but at least you tried them. It's not hard--if someone isn't performing, put someone else in. Smyth is better defensively than Armand, but we didn't need the extra defense last night, we were desperate for points.
