Is there preferential treatment of Momo? Yes the minutes he gets a game. He is simply not that much better than Armand and Jenkins. If defense is the reason Momo plays over Jenkins I can't understand it even more, at one time Jenkins was known as Iona's best defender. In Jenkins Cluess is wasting a talented senoir guard, In Armand Cluess is wasting one of the best 3 point shooters I have ever seen at Iona.

First of all like to say hello to all my Iona friends- long time no talk Secondly like to say you guys are way too tough on your team and coach- it was a upset nothing more nothing less. Iona wasn't going undefeated in MAAC play- when its all said and done Gaels will have 14 or 15 regular season wins. Last year Iona was good, among the 3 best in conference but not overwhelming favorite - this year Gaels are clearly the class of conference. I’ll be surprised if Iona isn't cutting the nets down in Springfield this year On to last night ‘s game-- first of all these are kids were talking about after beating Siena by 30 last year in MAAC tournament and 36 a few weeks ago- don't think for a second they didn't think they could go through the motions and beat Siena ( and who could blame them after last two a$$ kickings) I never like to blame officials but last night’s game was oddly officiated - the technical on Machado or bench was weird. the foul kept Machado on bench and that really hurt Iona Glover is a beast inside..but I have to tell you the one that had me shaking my head was MoMo--kid has as much talent as anyone in the MAAC- but he isn't that great a shooter and when he tried to drive into teeth of zone... he absolutely killed Iona last night...but like I said in grand scheme of things it was nothing but a bump in the road for Iona..a stinker-- they happen.. good luck the rest of the way fella’s and enjoy the year- you guys have a hell of a team

I blame Mitch. Good post, but I do think there is reason for real concern. If it had just been a close game from wire to wire and Siena was draining tough 3's from all over the court, I wouldn't be so concerned. But blowing the 18 point lead against a team with 6 players is bad. The fact that it happened so soon after the Manhattan debacle makes it even worse. Great job by the Saints. The were Cadillacs last night. (or were we Yugos?) They are showing a lot a heart this year. A lot of teams might have given up, after all the player losses, and gone 5 - 25, but they are fighting hard every game. Siena fans should proud of them.

Agree with all the comments. Just read armand's twitter... "i hope they will miss me when I am gone"... I hope he isn't considering transferring but with the way tc uses him I wouldn't be surprised. Twitter is toxic. TC uses him just fine IMO, I"ve seen enough games where the guy is totally lost on the defensive end, Sean needs to learn there are two ends to the court! If the kid is in fact speaking about leaving the program, my suggestion to him would be focus your frustrations on yourself. He should be a starter on this team, but his defense compared to Smyth's leaves Cluess no choice. Can't be one dimensional on offense, play poor "D" and expect to get much playing time here at Iona or anywhere else. How is Armand different than the rest of the team defensively? None are great defenders. We play D for 15 seconds than fall asleep. Jenkins and Armand seem like they have been in the doghouse all season

Armand got 17 minutes. Had few attempts. Does that mean Momo did pass him the ball? lol

Joined the board just now because I wanted to get in a couple of points, respectfully I hope, about Monday's Siena game. I'm posting this on 2 threads hoping to have a better chance of a response. I live in the Albany area, have no Iona connection or interest, and would rank Siena only 3rd or 4th among the college teams that interest me. Like a few of your regular posters, I would look at your conference losses as more bumps in the road from which you can hopefully learn to be a better team. However, I too can see where there might be concern as to the question of whether you can win 3 in a row at Springfield. It is a bit hard to understand how a team with such depth can't have a more effective player rotation. Of course, fans will always complain about this topic. Siena's coach only has 2 players he can rotate with the starters and fans still complain about his choices. I wanted to make a couple observations from last night and see if you have any reaction. The local Albany paper has written extensively about the game, and the Siena discussion board is active there. Coach Mitch and some of his players indicated that it was a home crowd victory. As the game progressed, the fans became more vociferous which energized the Siena team and demoralized Iona. Machado being on the bench as much as he was certainly had an impact on the game. The Siena radio announcers from the very start of the game harped on Machado making his baskets and then looking over to the Siena bench staring down each player and coach. Don't know if this was true and don't know if it attracted anyone else's attention. Regardless, it was infuriating the announcers. Nobody commented on what Machado's motivation may have been as his play alone was speaking volumes. It was said that the Siena coach may have spoken to the officials about it. This in turn might have lead to the refs being a bit more attentive to Machado and his demeanor than they might have otherwise. However, the topic that is really bringing down the house on the Siena board is Coach Cluess' actions during the foul shots taken by Siena on Iona' first technical. Here is how one poster put it: "Never, in 40 years of watching college basketball, have I ever seen an opposing coach leading his team in clapping while opposition shooting technical FTs. Total bush league by Cluesless, who lost a lot of people’s respect last night." And that is what some people feel fired up the home folks which in turn, well,...you know how it ended. Best of luck to you the rest of the way. Siena and U Albany should have Iona's problem of figuring out which good shooter ought to be on the floor.

Hard to tell these things from watching the game on a computer with the sound off, as I did last night. If Cluess was clapping during the T, I'm sure it was b/c he thought it was absurd, as both appeared to be. I'm sure he didn't win over the refs, let alone the crowd by doing so. Got to say I haven't noticed him being "bush league" at all, and at times when we could've rubbed some victories in teams faces, we've pulled back and not done so.
As for Scott, again I couldn't see this on the computer. If he's doing that kind of thing it sounds out of character. Maybe all the press he's been getting is going to his head and he needs to take a step back and be more humble, while continuing to be confident and believe in his abilities.

WOW!! Tony is getting very soft at his old age. I guess kids can do that to you. The old Tony would start off with his patented phrase.... BITCH SLAPPED and show no mercy! Glad to hear from you Tony and painfully must say enjoy your win!

None are great defenders. We play D for 15 seconds than fall asleep. Jenkins and Armand seem like they have been in the doghouse all season Let me first say I like Armand, without doubt he's the best shooter on the team. His difference on defense is that while the whole team struggles picking up their assignments (especially in the half court) it occurs well into the shot clock ( Ridley is often a culprit here). Armand when transitioning is always out of place, constantly losing the wing he's responsible for in man, wrong spot in zone, and often times appears to be unaware what defense their in! Now I wish as much as anybody he picks up on this because I'd loved to see him get the minutes, but there's a big discrepancy between his defense and Smyth's, and until he closes that gap I can understand his limited minutes. Having said that; I do believe Cluess has an entirely too quick a hook on this kid. I can understand him yanking him on a defensive gaff, but the instant he makes a miscue on the offensive end he yanks him also, which I just don't understand.
