The Patriots are a good team, but this looks like a winnable game at home. I don't know why, but I'm guessing we're a 5.5 favorite. Short turn around after the Kansas trip. Anyone know what time the guys got in? This would be a real nice win. A 2-2 start with this schedule is very acceptable, IMHO. We need to forget about Kansas, except the lessons learned and move on.
Hope Tavon is fit for the game.

GMU is an A10 team that is undefeated so far this season, albeit with only one win against a quality team. We definitely can't look past them. They also have some local products who I imagine will have a big cheering section on Saturday, including Sherrod Wright from Mt Vernon and Jalen Jenkins from Yonkers. We need the student section to be in top form.
Know it sounds crazy but IMO this is a huge game for our OOC credentials and a loss could come back to haunt us a bit come March if we're fortunate enough to be in a position to have a seeding discussion. If we lose this game we put ourselves in a bit of a hole where we're forced to win some very challenging road games if we want to have a respectable OOC resume.
Bottom line if we play with the same level of intensity as we did in Kansas we should win this one in a nailbiter. If we play with the same level of intensity as we did in Kansas and also decide to make our shots, we should win this one by a comfortable margin. If we sleep on these guys for 20 minutes like we did at Cleveland there's no way we're walking out with a win.
Go Gaels!!!

Some of the guys, AJ, Sean were at last night's Women's game. Wasn't Jenkins a Hayes guy that we were after?

Strange betting game.....George Mason is 4-0, Iona is 1-2...But those that wager on basketball are knowledgeable and take many factors into consideration....G. Mason has played 3 out of 4 at home, the only opponent of consequence being Northern Iowa who appear on the downswing...We have played 2 out 3 on the road with one being arguably the No.1 team in the Nation...
IMO I am with CTbill on this one and predict that we will be a 3-4 point favorite and vision possibly a larger win with a 2nd half pull away with I. Williams leading the way..............

this is an A10 program. They are coached by Paul Hewitt. The same program that went to the Final Four in 07! It would be a huge win.

short turnaround? game is 4 days after kansas they arrived back at 4:30pm today So if they came back yesterday the game is three days after the trip. Two days of catching up on school work and practice. Would like to see them come out with good intensity. A win Sat. over a very good team would go a long way to removing the bad taste of the second half against Kansas.

I remember being in Atlanta visiting family in 2004 and ran into Jim Larranaga and the GMU men's basketball team at the airport. We were all heading back to Northern Virginia. I went over to them and Larranaga (who is a very personable guy) got up; walked over to me; and shook my hand. I told him that I was a GMU law school alum and said that I'd be at The Patriot Center for the Iona game. He said that the team appreciated my support. I hesitated a bit and told him that I graduated from Iona and would be pulling for the Gaels. He asked me if I would at least pull for the Patriots in the first half. I told him that I couldn't, but that I wished him and the team well in every other game they played. We had a nice chat. I went to that game (which we lost by 5) and saw a number of Iona alums. Another Iona undergrad/GMU law school buddy showed up with an Iona sweatshirt and a GMU cap.
I just hope that the Gaels show the intensity that they showed in the first half of the game at Kansas. These guys can play with anyone and I hope that they don't let down. GMU is a good team and if we come out flat or over confident GMU can hang an "L" on us. I don't predict often, but I think we will win this game. I hope that Sledge is back and healthy.
Go Gaels!!!

The Journal News has a pre-game writeup on Sherrod Wright of George Mason, and formerly from Mt. Vernon HS. Nothing about the Iona team, but hopefully the article will alert fans that there is a game today. Oh, and they have Iona as a one point favorite.

Re: Sherrod Wright
“Any time Mount Vernon wants to send another guy like that my way, trust me, I’m waiting with open arms.” - Paul Hewitt, George Mason Coach
Hopefully, the Gaels can make a strong case for staying local today.
