I've been to quite a few Dayton games and they are good basketball fans. The arena is a huge homecourt advantage. This will be a tough one to win, though my Brother-in-law, a Dayton Alum and huge fan, is convinced Iona will win. I am looking forward to this game, as I have been to 6 Gael games in the state of Ohio in recent years (Missed BYU) and the Gaels have lost all 6. Time to break the streak! I'm actually happy we lost to St. Bonaventure - so far this season the Gaels are 5-1 in games I did not attend and 0-2 in games I have attended. I still have 1 extra ticket in the third row if anyone is interested! Go Gaels! Greg--I'm 0-5 in Ohio--all since TC got here. No chance I'll be there and may request that you give up both tickets so you stay away. (Gaels 2-1 when I attend this year.) I will try to find somebody who has only gone to Dayton losses to balance it out!

Dayton currently with rpi of 36 and Iona with rpi of 169. Would be great win for resume if they do not fall too far during the course of the season. Manhattan has rpi in 60's and appears to be living up to their preseason hype. We need to get on a roll and avoid the letdowns. Let's get it done in Dayton. Expecting Coach Cluess to have the team ready. Anyone not giving effort on defense will find the bench pretty quick. Hopefully our health is improving and Sledge and Hines give quality minutes. Time to rally the troops and let the team know "we believe". Let's go GAELS!

Would have loved to have chimed in on the Bonnies thread, but I have not seen Iona play yet this year. I can hardly wait to.
Was at that Hofstra game two years ago in Hempstead. They got off to a horrible start, and then made a very good run at them. This was a big revenge game for Hofstra too, just like the Bonnies game. It was at this game that I first got a look at the Iona fan support. I'm sure they cared because why else would you travel all the way to Long Island to watch the game. But while they were making their run, the huge contingent from Iona was just sitting their like they were attending a lecture on insect biology or something. Somewhat interested, but very subdued. You would have thought they'd be jumping up and down and screaming (or at least clapping). But they were doing nothing. It reminded me of the St. John's fan support, except it was worse. (Contrary to what IC59 posted, the "home" crowd at St. John's is not the least bit intimidating to either referees or opposing teams).
By the way, Joebird, was the "Fatass" you spoke about that psycho Hofstra fan sitting behind the basket trying to distract the Iona foul shooters. That was hilarious, and almost worth the price of admission all by itself. The game was two years ago but I still remember that vividly. Had no effect on the shooters, I believe.

The fat ass I was referring to was Mike Francessa. the guy behind the basket was annoying but also sort of funny. The beating Hofstra was putting on us was embarrassing and even with the comeback, there wasn't much opportunity to cheer. Over the years there has been games where the crowd was pretty loud, the Richmond home game a couple of years ago was a great crowd, in fact I would say about once or twice a year the crowd wakes up from its usual slumber and makes noise, I expect the Manhattan game to be electric.

rekson, your post that contrary to something I posted, that the St. John's crowd DOES NOT intimidate referees. I'm sorry that I didn't know that you were a ref. I guess you only work Big East games, because I'm sure you would have mentioned it if you reffed MAAC games. How long have you been reffing?

They go 10 or 11 deep and have a nice mix of quick guards and skilled big men. The game will be broadcast on the NBC Sports Network. Channel 41 with Time Warner Cable. Stoked to have it! Finally, it will be interesting to watch the Sibert/Armand match-up. These two guys should be the top 2 players on the court. Should be in the chat room if anyone is around.

One thing I have noticed is that handicappers appear to have more trouble establishing a line with Iona games then most other teams...With Iona's erratic past performances, I can understand their quandary...This game started as Dayton a 7 point favorite, then they worked up as much as 10 1/2...In latest check it appears to be down to 8 and in some 7 1/2...IMO the line went up with early flow of Dayton money but has gone back down by sport bettors that understand the Gails potential...Interesting--Unpredictable game.....
