Need to end this losing streak. Won't be an easy game, going up against an NIU team that is 2-0 at home and has wins over VCU and LaSalle.
Go Gaels!!!

The team and coaches need to find "it" to get back on track. We move the ball on the perimeter pretty well, but we do not attack the rim well. A number of our drives have been right into the defense or kicking to the corner. Wish we saw more baseline cuts from the wings rather than parking in the corner with minimal movement. On defense we need to anticipate more, moving when the ball is in the air versus once the player catches the ball. Very few hard closeouts on potential shooters allowing way too many open looks. This D-1 basketball, almost all the players can shoot well when wide open. As I mentioned in the Nevada thread, are we adverse to fouling? Our bigs- Laury, Hines and Robinson are absorbing a number of fouls at the rim because their teammates get beat and give up. In high school we have coached that if you are getting beat you need to foul rather than your teammate who is coming to help, especially if you were beat due to your lack of focus and hustle. Playing no or lazy defense has always been the quickest way to the bench. Hopefully we can overcome our intensity issue. We seem to endlessly lose the rebound and 50-50 ball battles. Unfortunately, some very good players never "get" the need to hustle and play with intensity. They need to want it bad enough and self motivate. As a coach it is very hard to get the point across with certain players. Pulling players, withholding playing time and harsh speeches do not always motivate, but instead cause players to withdraw. The biggest challenge to coaching is the issue of evaluating your players and tailoring your approach to that group or individuals to get positive results. I am sure Coach Cluess has asked his staff numerous times what are we doing wrong to get the points across. I hope they find the "it" before it is too late. We are too talented to play the way we have lately.
Another issue is David Laury appears to be hesitant versus aggressive in his play, maybe in response to his free throw difficulty. Hopefully they can get him to slow down on his free throws, take a deep breath and extend to the rim. Right now he is flinging it as soon as the ref hands him the ball. His facial expression and body language show defeat on each free throw. A sports pyschologist might be in order to address his approach and regain his confidence. We know he can play, hopefully he can regain that confidence. Against Kansas he showed us what he can do off the dribble against other bigs. David show us the smile, your love of the game, the intensity that we know burns inside you. These opportunities do not last. Take advantage and enjoy!
Wishing the team and coaches a Merry Christmas. Enjoy the break. Then let's play hard and get Northern Iowa! GO GAELS!

After the Northern Iowa game we will either be 6-5 or 5-6 overall...2 of those wins having been against MAAC teams...We will have 18 games left, all against MAAC teams...We will have our work ahead of us to reach the 20 win mark...The MAAC tournament will help...It will bring us 1-2-3 victories unless we get knocked off in the 1st game...If we win all three regardless of previous record we are NCAA bound...
So...the season is not over, we still have some basketball to look forward to...But IMO a change in team general attitude is necessary...Right now there appears a intangible missing which can be a its way to repair with a win against N. Iowa...This victory will be obtainable with the return of a resurrected I. Williams, and the resumption of a winning attitude.......Lets Go Gails......

In my opinion, when we play this much zone, we need to have a much more aggressive mindset. This is one of the things that I don't like about zone. It can take away your aggressiveness. But they may need to play zone given the current roster. Hopefully, in another month or so they will be playing much better defensively.

5pm early line has us a 3 1/2 point dog...A victory will regain lot of lost basketball respect this team, go a long was in team confidence and give us a quick start entering the MAAC portion...It will be a ideal guide to the future of Gail's fortune..............

]Anyone have updates on Isaiah Williams status? Guy or anyone else in the know?[/quote] There have been many such type inquiries....I have yet come across any post that comes close to a response in ref. to the question....Iona basketball staff keeps information better then what was kept about the Chicago Atomic Bomb experiment... I would also add I am amazed at the lack of uproar from the fan base.....It will take time, but the details will eventually seep out.........

Does anyone know if ESPN3 will black everything out and be the sole provider for coverage for this game? Or can I still buy it through the Northern Iowa website version of our Insider access?

Northern Iona Tech is primarily a speed skating school. They've only had basketball for 45 minutes and have just learned to abandon the skates. But it would be a mistake to look past them!
