All hands on deck! We need contributions from everyone. Coaches and team. Time to play with urgency. Time to play hard on defensive end, especially rebounding. Coach Cluess is obviously looking for rotations that work in different situations. As stated previously David Laury needs help in finding his confidence. He has the tools, unfortunately he has hit a stretch where he has struggled. He maybe overthinking his game. We need a game under our belt where we grind out a win to turn the tide. Hopefully Quinnipiac can be the game. The team has to believe it is possible. We have to believe! Let's help make it happen! Post positive comments on the good and what is possible. Iona has the talent. Let's go GAELS! Gotta believe!

Quick scouting report....Excellent rebounding team.....Poor 3 point shooting team.....Turn over prone....So so foul shooting team....Lost 3 out of 4 all away from home....6-5 overall.....Advantage...Their front court and height...Our advantage.....Our guards scoring ability...Should be a high scoring game as if that is anything new.....Line guess--Quinny 2-3 point favorite, but very unpredictable...
Have not been there, but by all reports beautiful campus and very good field house which make a good T.V appearance.......

I'll be there Thursday night as the real season begins. Go Gaels Go!!!
This will be a tough game as Quinny has a nice combination of good big men and small, speedy guards. Should be fun to watch.

Let's see if we decide to play defense. I hope that Gomez and Hinds get significant playing time. They've earned it.

Aside from Rob Poole, no one on Siena is able to hit a shot. Siena is also very slow on D.

This will be a tough game as Quinny has a nice combination of good big men and small, speedy guards. From what I've seen of them, their bigs are a lot better than their guards... a rarity, especially in the MAAC. We'll need to find some semblance of interior defense.

Tv games are usually not cancelled, so this one will likely be played but it won't be a fun commute home for Gaels and fans.
This team has a lot of talent but figuring out the roles is going to be a tough challenge for Cluess as almost every player looks like they deserve minutes.
Defensively I think there is hope because every Cluess team seems to get better as the year goes on and this team can't get any worse defensively.
One of the biggest challenges is to correct Laury's free throw problems, you just can't have a player like him be so bad at free throws. This will be Cluess's most difficult fix.

Joebird.....Free throw problems that develop during the carrier of a player who was a pretty fair foul shooter are usually mental and not technique...They are a lot harder to correct...Alejo Rodrequez was a prime example and I see some similarity. He was a better then average foul shooter in High School...Sometimes by the stroke of luck it can be corrected by one good game...Perhaps the New Year will bring that wish...........

Yes definitely mental and really the only one who can fix is David himself. I wish someone would show him a tape of his makes last year, you would see his two feet shuffling back and forth as he prepared to take his free throw, this worked for him, go back to it.

Here's what I'd like to see the rest of the way. Conference play. Players and coaches. We know the road ahead. Work hard in practice, be unselfish, share the ball. Listen to the coach and work for the good of the team. Work hard understanding defensive schemes and assignments, and work hard on D and rebounding. Put the effort out there. Love it. Love what you do. Have fun with it - it ain't life and death. No one player can control winning or losing. Just play without fear of losing, play as a team, work together, support each other, keep the poise and don't give up. Stay in the present. One game at a time. The past is over. Right here, in the present. What can I do now to help the team? Next year doesn't matter. March doesn't matter. Next game doesn't matter. They ain't here. If they learn this lesson, that will sustain them in everything they do. They will earn the respect of others, but more important they will respect themselves. That's all anyone can do. If they do these things, this season will be a success whether they win games or not, whether they win the MAAC or not, whether they win NCAA tournament games or not, whether they make shots or not, whether the opponent makes shots or not.

Just saw the local weather forecast and they're calling for 6-10 inches of snow locally overnight Thursday into Friday, starting around late Thurs. afternoon. They expect the local schools to be closed Friday. If the game isn't postponed just a heads up that the little Quinny arena sits atop a hill and there is a steep, somewhat windy climb to access the parking area and arena. So if you're coming to the game bring your 4 wheel drive or at least your snow tires. If the game isn't postponed, I would expect a sparse crowd and not much of a "home court advantage."

Also for anyone making the trip up, I think this is the best local place near the arena for burger and a beer before/after the game. Its on Rte. 10 (Whitney Avenue in Hamden) a couple of miles south of the arena. www.elisonwhitney.com/
