Niagara rhymes with Viagra, so let's play like we took some. CB, thanks for that unwelcome visual of the team having difficulty getting up and down the court. Just trying to erect a scenario where we win

Iona is 5-1 with the starting lineup of English, Bowman, Armand,Williams and Laury. This is a very talented lineup, it is the group that has the best chance of making this team special, hopefully Williams is back and they can run with it. Use Poole, Hines, Gomez/Sledge for depth and lets see what can happen the rest of the way. I'll be watching the game today to see which players give effort on defense. It seems months ago since the solid defensive effort we displayed against FGC. It frustrates me when opposing teams are allowed uncontested open shots. Just for fun, let's make it a point to recognize the top 3 defensive players in each game. We know Iona can score but at some point our defense will need to step up and create havoc.

WOW! I could not believe the box score. Great to get a win with contributions across the board. David Laury needed a game like this to help his confidence. What happened? Did we overwhelm them with a rocket start and kept it going? Or was there no defense at all by either team. Mostly transition baskets or half court sets? Please someone enlighten me.

Dominant offensive performance but second half d was once again terrible, first half d much better with Gomez and Poole getting more minutes.
Team plays well with Gomez at the point but all he has to do is make 1 mistake and Cluess pulls him, bowman also on tight leash. Gaels are a much better team when bowman is playing well.
Other thoughts: Apparently Williams is gone, too bad.
Sledge played very inspired in garbage time, trying to show cluess he should play more.
Laury -played fairly well and looked better on ft line.
Hynes- plays with a lot of effort, good to have that type of player, but not really a big man, more like a 3.
Overall nice effort by the whole team but need to play d on every possession but I expect their d to improve as season goes on, and if that can happen they are as good as manhattan. It would be nice to go into Quinny and win and then go on a run. Today reinforced my thoughts that this team still can end up being a very good team.

I admit that you aren't going lose with 34 assists. That is unreal. I will watch closely game by game before saying that this is a very good team. Playing at Quinny is a good teat though. Williams would be a big loss if he is gone.

Good win today, almost forgot what that felt like after the rough stretch we've had recently. Some observations from the game:
1. Niagara is awful, so we need to reserve judgment until we see this team in action against Quinny on Monday, but definitely lots of positives to take from this game.
2. Amazing team passing, and frankly even the 30+ assists in the stat sheet don't do justice to how well this team moved the ball, both inside and out.
3. Poole stepping up his offensive game big time as of late. Really going to need it with Isaiah Williams being gone for good.
4. DL3 was a man among boys today. Great intensity and hustle around the rim, and even better to see him sink his FTs.
5. Antoine Mason is a punk, really hard to root for the kid. Not surprised that the Purps fared better once he was tossed from the game. Never seen a player as dirty as he is. The push off that was called a "blocking" foul they called on us at the end of the half was one of the worst calls I've ever seen. Only question is who is harder to root for, him or his father.
6. Good to see Bowman get back into the swing of things with solid 3 point shooting and really good transition play. Hopefully he can play this way consistently for the rest of the season.
7. Joebird spot on in his observation that the team's second half defense was concerning. Hopefully we can chalk it up to them losing interest since it was a blowout, but still no excuse. Need to play 40 minutes of defense every game.
8. Quiet 35 points for AJ and Sean today.
9. Biggest positive IMO is this team's communication and camaraderie. Seems to be leaps and bounds better than last year and the year before. Also credit to Cluess and staff, who are visibly more enthusiastic on the bench than ever before.
10. We need to be sensitive to the Isaiah Williams situation, definitely wish the kid the best and respect the fact that he is in a situation that none of us can identify with even in our worst nightmare. But this coaching staff had no choice but to move on without him. They've done every thing possible to bend over backwards and to accommodate his situation, but it clearly had gotten to a point where the risk was outweighing the reward, and they had to move forward. Can't manage any team, business, or anything else for that matter, not knowing if someone is going to show up to work the next day. In retrospect I would bet the staff wishes they had this one back. Seems like there was just a bit too much baggage with him.
Bring on QU...go Gaels!!!

I thought the coaching staff pulled off a brilliant defensive strategy double teaming Mason every time he had the ball. Totally frustrated him and forced several turnovers. Somebody did a great scouting job. Niagara wasn't a good test for us, but when the offense is on (as it was in the first half) the motor really races. Hope we have an offensive night like that in a game we really need it.

We shot 75% in the first half and 65% for the game. Hard to lose to anybody when shooting those percentages.

Have to like Hines production today for a freshman big. 50% from the field, 50% from the three, 66% from the line, 12 points, 6 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal in 18 minutes of action.
