Keep in mind that Canisius has a 6'10 center, but more importantly, a "big" PF, Manhertz, who I assume that Poole would have to guard, when we're not playing zone. It is possible that DL would guard Manhertz, who plays down low, and Poole would guard the 6'10, Heath, who is a perimeter shooter. I guess it's also possible that Hines starts, so that we'd have two 'bogs' on the court. My guess is that Poole starts at PF and we play zone.

Are we speculating about abandoning zone defense for significant portions of the game? I like man defense if everyone hustles and can deny their man, though if one player lags it falls apart with others attempting to help. Is Box and 1 a possibility with the 1 being assigned Baron. I hope we mix the defenses in an attempt to hinder the flow of their set offenses. It will be key to limit their transition game. That is when Baron is most dangerous. Will be an interesting game as the strengths and weaknesses of both teams are similar. Expecting a high energy high scoring affair, not a lot of defense. Is a 100 points a possibility? Perfect for Prime-time on ESPNU at 9 PM.

Think Bowman is our best defensive matchup against Baron. If Sledge still had his step from last year I would say him, but this year I think Tre is the man to try to contain Baron. Don't think Poole is fast enough. Agree. I would primarily have Bowman cover Baron, with Sledge in to spell Bowman. While pool plays "long", feel it is a step slow and Baron would blow right by him. JMHO

Is there a reason that the game isn't on the Insider?

Is there a reason that the game isn't on the Insider? it will only be shown on ESPNU. I think when this happens everything else is shut down as I remember from last year too.

Bowman is another story...No need to turn game into a defensive struggle...Offense will be advantage Iona, especially where rims are familiar...We are a strong favorite----No need to get to technical...Play like it from opening gun...

I agree that Bowman offers more value on O, but I would still stick Bowman on a Baron bases on Bowman's quickness as opposed to Poole.

Triangle & 2. Just handle him with the double team as we did with Mason. Tre too valuable to give fouls on defense. I would have AJ, Shawn, Tre, Poole, Tavon, etc. on the double team. Make him force it or have the "others" try to beat us.
I think Tavon will be ready!

I hope so, Super. What Sledge lacks in height he makes up for with heart, leaping ability, and energy. We need him 100%.
Go Gaels!!!

When Canisius scores in the 80's or 90's, it seems that Cruz(??) or is it Perez(I might be confusing him with kid who played for Niagara a few years back), and or Lewis score 20+. At least it seems that way to me. At home, and against a relatively poor defensive team, we should score at least 80 points. And if Bowman and Williams are hot then 90 points are a possibility. JMO.

Great points. I believe it is Perez. We have not played much defense and made average players look like great scorers. Baron is on a hot streak. He is going to get his no matter what and most likely Perez or Lewis will get some points. Armand and English will match them on offensive end. my concern is containing Heath and Manhertz on the boards. Canisius has a lot of pieces. looking forward to an exciting high scoring game.

Where is the love and support? Game time is fast approaching. Let's see some excitement. Expecting tonight's game to be exciting with these offenses. Hopefully we do not let them shoot over 50%. Come on Sean, AJ, David and Tre lead the way! Let's GO GAELS!

Agree to putting someone other than Bowman on Baron like Poole or Sledge. If Bowman gets into foul trouble you give up more offense than with any of the aforementioned or the possibility to go for more than his 13 ppg average. Baron is an aggressive PG and anything close will go to the offense after what I've seen this year with the new points of interest. He's a strong kid and uses that forearm pretty well.

dansimms, I remember the good-old-days when DL would grab 10 rebounds in the first half.
