ic59 great posts, putting in a point gaurd at the end of the game was what we were saying where i was sitting, poole shut baron down for the the first 15 minutes, when he came out Baron had 8pts at the end of the half and started to feel it, Poole should always be on the others teams best offensive player if he is a 1-4 maybe we could have ran a screen at he end of the game ctbill, how could that have been a good shot from 28ft, WE WERE ONLY DOWN 2!!!! Didn't say we got the best shot we could get. That would be an uncontested lay up under the basket to tie. But there was a bigger team than us playing defense out there. We got a clean look for one of the best 3 pt shooters in the country for a win.

chelsea, I don't think that Greg was talking about MoMo's ball handling. I think he meant how he wanted the ball in his hands when the game was on the line, and also his ability to create his own shot.

Crazy MAAC.....Fairfield leading Manhattan by about 16 at half time.... Jaspers look absolutely terrible....Cluess should get game film of it and study what defense Stags are playing....On SNY if you want to root for the upset....

We need a true point guard in at the end of a game such as tonight because on offense we stand around, very little motion, start to move toward the elbow with less than 10 seconds to play, don't penetrate to draw a foul or be able to kick it out. My vote is for Sledge.
Until we devote time in practice to setting us picks offensively in key situations, do not ever call a time out which makes us play a half court set which we are clearly not good at and not improving at all.

Sledge is a better then average point guard, but not for Iona...A check of deficit point loss when he is in the game will prove it...We loose several inches and valuable rebounding strength and with this the team appears out of sync...If we grow bigger this coming year I hope he proves me wrong...

Oldtimer I agree with your logic but I am not considering rebounding in this situation I just want a good play called and a good shot taken. This cannot be understated. We are lousy as a team rebounding anyway because it appears to me very little time is devoted to defense in practices. Do we or the rest of us truly believe we don't have enough talent to be better 335 in defense in the country.
If we do spend a good amount of time at practice on defense, then we have another problem entirely.

However, at the break neck pace they play it is hard to get up and down the court and expend all that energy. Also, I like Sledge but AJ is a better shooter (F/T, 2 pt and 3 pt) and distributes well enough. Sledge appears to be a better distributor but AJ is good enough. I wouldn't bury him due to the T/O that hurt us yesterday. Who would your 5 be on the court in the last minutes? AJ as an off guard?

With 60 seconds left? I would go with Gomez, Armand, English, Bowman and Williams. The other team would be too happy to foul Laury since his shooting from the line is off. Sledge is not 100% and though his shooting from the outside is getting better, he needs more confidence, Poole does some good things but is not enough of an offensive threat so people would slack off him. I would let AJ drive and if he has the shot, take it. If not kick it back out to the others for a jumper.

Not even that - as I recall even he missed his fair share of shots during that losing streak last year. I throw that in once in a while, because I think there are some who downplay his contribution. I like this team this year and if we didn't have all the injuries and other problems I think the team would be in great shape. My point is it's very hard to replace a guy like Momo. On the positive side, we've lost Scott & Momo in the last two years and they are still pretty good. While I'm at it - another superb job by the coaching staff last night. Just got sloppy at the end and lost.

A look at the bright side...We are 8-8 with 13 games to go...Last year we finished 17-14, but won the MAAC Tourney for 3 more victories...With Williams starting to get his feet on the ground it will fill one of our missing pieces...We are only a game out of a tie for 1st place...Lets start the second half of the season with a big win over Siena tomorrow...We will be off and running, and we will be looking forward with renewed vigor...My pep talk for the day....

Tough loss especially when we had two separate runs of 11-0 and 18-0 and even a friendly break where the ball should have gone out of bounds but was kept alive when it hit the referees leg and we got a three point goal as a result.
I. Williams became a Gael last night. So happy for him.
I'm starting to get tired of watching DL3 handle the ball at the top of the arc. He did so on two of the three opening possessions of the second half and one time it lead to a double dribble on a lazy one handed fancy pants pass by him. Yes, he can handle the ball, but refrain from doing so outside of 15 feet from the basket.
The crowd matched the teams intensity during their inspired comeback but the crowd size was awful again. I don't think the return of the students next week will fix this problem much, the alumni side is pretty sparse.
How about Manhattan losing to Fairfield today? Am I the only one who fears a 20 point loss to the Jaspers on Richie Guerin day? Hopefully the house is packed that night and making noise..
