ESPN has us as a 14 playing Villanova in Buffalo in their latest bracketology This would be something for me! I am a nova alumnist but an Iona fan since I'm 6 (my father went to Iona and took me to every game). No question my loyalty is for Iona and finally getting our win here would be quite ironic for me.

I've been dying to see us play Villanova for ages. Would be nice to get them in a postseason setting. Don't believe we've ever played them, at least not in the modern era?

If my memory serves me right I have a recollection of being at a Iona-Villanova game at a packed house at the Westchester County Center...My guess early l950's...Fred Pericas who later served as a New Rochelle Police Officer gave quite a performance for the Gails in a close but losing effort...
Have not heard from Fred in many years...Also can't find his name carried as even played for the Gails. Any oldtimers remember him......?

i went through all the conferences, i see us as better than 10 champs, this makes us the worst 14 seed, unless we win our last 7, i can't see moving up to 13 never mind 12

I said this earlier in the thread: If we win out, I think we get a 13. If we lose one during the season, we'll be fortunate to get a 14.
I think the NCAA gave us our one break 2 years ago and, based on the result, will not help us again.

If we win out we would have a mid/high 30s RPI with a 16 game winning streak in a conference that has 4 teams with better than 100 RPIs. Even though our OOC record is subpar, I would say we'd still be a lock for a 13 with that resume, with an outside shot at a 12 if we catch a good amount of breaks in other conf tourneys.
If we lose one game we'd still have a low 40s RPI and don't see us dropping below a 13 seed. Don't have the time to do the research, but can't imagine there have been many 14 seeds with RPIs in the low 40s?
Even if we lose two games I still think we're a 14 seed, although it could get a bit fuzzy at that point. We'd have a 22-10 record with a low 50s RPI, no quality OOC wins, and representing a conference that is about the 17th best in the country. Still think we're a 14 at that point, but could see us dropping to 15 if the committee wakes up on the wrong side of the bed. Even in the Ruland years when we had RPIs hovering around the 100 mark we still managed to squeeze a 14 seed out.
Anything worse and we're a lock for a 15.

OT, I remember reading about Fred, and I think he was a NewRo native. A small guy, about 5'9, and while he was older, I think he played on a team with Richie Guerin, as a backup guard. Also, remember a breakout game when he scored 20+ points. Was it against Villanova? Of course it's possible that I'm confusing him with Joe DeStanislao, a 6'5 center, also from NewRo. A nice trip down lost memory lane.

with no quality wins, there is no way we will be under 40 rpi, hopefully we keep winning so you will see this, I don't even see us being below 60

Thanks Chels........Seems like just a short while ago Fred the boys and I had a brew or two at the old Commuter's bar...His biggest asset was speed, whether he was on a breakaway to the basket or chasing a Perpetrator down a back alley, he was as fast as they come...
He now becomes another reminder that the ''The days go slow, but the years go fast'' `

It isn't as simple as we are better than 10 champs. They do take RPI, quality wins etc. into account. They also take into account late season records, so if we do, by some miracle, win out, that may factor into a slightly higher seed.

RPI Forecast projects us to be a 34.7 RPI if we win out and then take 3 in Springfield. www.rpiforecast.com/teams/ct/Iona.html
