Sounds like spinning to me. But this will be my last post on this subject, which doesn't have anything to do with Iona BB. Sorry I got involved.

One of the problems with RPI ratings is that it has built in momentum for a conference. I think the new Big East may be caught in a down draft if members don't have a great OOC in 2014-15.

It's not uncommon for message boards to have threads on peripheral topics. As long as it's college basketball I think it is appropriate This is page three. People are posting because it's the off-season, and it relates to Iona and the MACC. If the Big East gets caught in a downdraft it will be because of ESPN pretending they are dead.

By the way 59, did you mean that I was spinning or ESPN? Or both. I'm trying to be factual. I don't see why you are "sorry you got involved". You sound like a mother-in-law. Only kidding.

So you're saying it's the media who determines how strong a league. If ESPN hyped the MAAC, we could be among the top six conferences?

No! The post says "If the Big East gets caught in a downdraft it will be because of ESPN pretending they are dead". It is certainly possible that if ESPN dumped the MAAC games and said the conference is dead, they could get caught in a downdraft. I'm not even saying that this will happen to the Big East. All I'm saying is that if it does happen, then ESPN will have played a major role. The MAAC schools would have difficulty reaching those heights because of the size of the schools and the fact that most of the schools (Iona excluded) have not played big time basketball for very long. And it's easier to tear a league down then it is to build them up.

Sometimes its hard to come up with interesting topics that directly affect Iona. This is a topic that was getting a lot of discussion out there. Probably should have put this in the off-topic thread . Of course Guy as our fearless leader is always welcome to do with this as he sees fit.
