Mikeil Watkins @killemkeil 55m55 minutes ago blessed to have received my first D1 offer from Iona College #GoGaels
Mikeil Watkins - 6' combo guard. Good court vision and passer. Very smooth player seems to glide across the floor. Is a good three ball shooter, can slash and when driving is good at dishing down low to the open man.
I like the slogan on his twitter page: "My mom worked too hard for me not to be great"
Looks like a Scott Machado type PG. More athletic, though not as strong. Looks to be a better O/S shooter than Scott, but I doubt if his court vision is as good as Scott's. Very few have SM's court vision and court awareness. I'm certain (??) that we will bring in a PG next year, and he will probably be someone we will have never heard of, until he commits. My question is, of all the PG's that we have been involved with as of now, who is our #1 target?

Your guess is as good as anybody's. I doubt we have a shot with him but I would say our wish list would have Devonte Green's ams at the top of the list. Clive Allen might be the second name on the PG wish list.
According to Verbal Commits Iona has offered Johannes Leth Nielsen.
Johannes Leth Nielsen - 6'9" PF from Denmark who is reported to be a PF who has the skills to step out and play SF. Not really much info out there on this kid and the only video I found was from a year or two ago. He has an offer from Montana State and is getting strong interest from Bucknell, Lafayette and Holy Cross.
Will Tavares - 6'6" Combo Guard from Rhode Island's Bishop Hendricken who now plays at Monroe CC. In high school he was First team All-League and All Division, 2014 Player of the Year. Did a postgrad year at IMPACT Academy Very athletic player, great hops (gets off the floor quickly), with a great handle who excels in transition. Can shoot the three and get to the hoop. Last season he averaged 10ppg and 4 rpg while shooting 42.9% from the three. He was named JUCO Region XV POY. Needs to be more consistent shooting from the foul line. He has offers from Albany, Maryland Eastern Shore, Buffalo and Bryant.

Goes by "Swaggy T", for that reason alone I want him on the team!

My note book page that keeps tract of all mentioned Iona recruits, targets, and offers has now reached into the 40's for the next 3 recruiting years...We without doubt have one of the most active staff and exploratory board members in College basketball...I am sure it creates jealousy among other sites...
Due to my age, I have become a one year at a time fan, but it does deter me from being a hopeful boarder...Our 'Farm system' is in excellent hands.
We have the ingredients for another superior season, now all that remains to be done, is to formulate them into a coordinated unit and I feel sure that Coach Cluess has the proven qualifications to weld it together....
Christian Vital reported that Iona offered him after an open gym back in April.
Christian Vital - 6'2" Combo out of Hollis who now plays at St. Thomas Moore. Plays AAU for Team SCAN. Rated 3 stars by Scout. He is a very quick & athletic, has a great handle, can shoot the three very well, can score the ball and is developing into a lock down defender. He has frustrated some top level recruits when they went head to head. Offers from Dayton, GWU, UNLV, Chattanooga, Holy Cross, Manhattan, Nebraska, BC, George Mason, SPU, Fairfield, St. Joe's, VCU, Tulsa, LaSalle, Fordham, Duquesne, Hofstra and URI. Interest from Providence, Florida, Syracuse, UMASS, Maryland, Albany, Miami and Temple.
Kahari Beaufort will visit Iona tomorrow. Averaged 11 ppg last year as a freshman at Lake Land JC. His full scouting report previously posted:
Kahari Beaufort - 6'4" SG - Played for ST Raymond's (Bronx) and East Hartford High School and the NY Lightning AAU. Currently at Lake Land College (JUCO). Can slash, shoot, pass and handle the ball. Can finish around the rim with either hand. Athletic and quick. Coming out of High School had offers from FIU, Providence, Miami, Baylor, Drexel and Hofstra. Was getting strong looks from UCONN, Kansas, Manhattan, Pitt, Rutgers, UTEP, WV, SJU, Florida, Wichita and Syracuse. He wanted to play for UCONN but they did not make an offer as of Feb, when his "incident" took place. He did think an offer was coming from them as he had taken an official. CBS Sports ranked him as the 41st best player in the class of 2004. He made a huge impact as a freshman playing for the lightning in a showcase in North Carolina. Bounced around to a few high schools.
I trust the staffs decision regarding this recruit. So far Cluess has done a great job in picking the right players so I am not going to question him now.

Saren Westrop is a 6'7" 210lb from Lethbridge Alberta. Kid played hoops as well as TE in football. Kid looks like a good athlete, tough defender who has good court vision, uses his body well in contact and has a good outside shot. He scores in bunches. From an area about 2 hours south of Calgary so I don't know the level of competition he played against but he played well in the Canada games against the other provinces top players. Not a lot of info on him so he might be a steal.
