Kevin Hamlet - is a 6'7" stretch 4 . Canadian player who played in California last season. He was listed s a junior last season so must have reclassified when he transferred to St. Benedict's. Reported to be a well rounded player that can also play Defense.
Arnaldo Toro - is a 6'8" PF/C from Puerto Rico. He is very strong, can hit the short jumper, has a good motor, rebounds well at both ends, likes to hit the offensive and finish. He likes to slide to the baseline looking for the pass from a cutting teammate and then dunking. He has interest from Miami, West Virginia and Notre Dame. Future 150 has him ranked as a 3 star and ranked as the 137th best player in his class. Dick Weiss listed him as one of the Top 10 Players at the FIBA U17 World championships in Dubai this summer. His report on Toro is:
"Toro, one of four Puerto Rican imports at St. Benedicts prep power, was the star of this island team that finished a surprising fifth in this tournament, ahead of Canada and China. Toro averaged 16 points and led the tournament in rebounding with a 13.4 a game as Puerto Rico finished 6-1 overall. Toro, who is being recruited by Miami and Notre Dame, is a rising senior who will play big time college basketball"
Let's hope Hamlet is capable of making a decision. And Toro sounds like a real bull. Boom, there it is!!!
A name to remember... Chuba Ohams, 6'6" SG/SF from from Wadleigh (transferred from Salesian) who is very athletic. A tough defender and slasher. Athletic player with great length that loves to throw down dunks. Has a nice touch out past the three. Kid is going to be very good. He hustles and can rebound and slam the put back. Has an offer from North Dakota. He is best friends with Iona recruit Lenny Kadisha and is also friends with Kai Mitchell. If this kids handle improves a bit he will be a very good mid major prospect.
86, who is considered the better prospect, Ohams (16) or Kadisha (15)? I realize that Ohams, being about three inches taller and a year younger MIGHT have more upside, but that's just a guess.

59, Kadisha has a better handle... Kadisha is a combo guard and I would see Ohams as more of a SF in Cluess system. Right now Kadisha is the more polished player and is getting looks from some Big East level programs . I would like to see both in an Iona uniform. Ohama does not have a bad handle... both players can use both hands... Ohama just needs a little extra polish. Both players are fearless going to the hoop. What I like about Ohama's game is his ability go baseline and finish, I think he is going to be very good.
Arkel Ager-Lamar - Iona has offered the 6'6" SG formerly of St. Joseph's-Trumbul who will play at St. Thomas More this season. Great shooter, very good handle, scores after drawing contact, High Hoops IQ can slash. This kid can score and played amazing against the best AAU competition. Dropped 32 points in the Topflight High School B-Ball Showcase which features the best players in Connecticut... He was reported to be the best player on the court.
He holds offers from Providence, SJU, St. Peter’s, and Iona as well as interest from Saint Joseph’s, Temple, UMass, Boston College, Marist, Quinnipiac, Drexel, and West Virginia. As of July he had taken visits to St. John’s, Fairfield, BC, Saint Joseph’s and Temple. He visited Iona in late August.
Kahari Beaufort - 6'4" SG - Played for ST Raymond's (Bronx) and East Hartford High School and the NY Lightning AAU. Currently at Lake Land College (JUCO). Can slash, shoot, pass and handle the ball. Can finish around the rim with either hand. Athletic and quick. Coming out of High School had offers from FIU, Providence, Miami, Baylor, Drexel and Hofstra. Was getting strong looks from UCONN, Kansas, Manhattan, Pitt, Rutgers, UTEP, WV, SJU, Florida, Wichita and Syracuse. He wanted to play for UCONN but they did not make an offer as of Feb, when his "incident" took place. He did think an offer was coming from them as he had taken an official. CBS Sports ranked him as the 41st best player in the class of 2004. He made a huge impact as a freshman playing for the lightning in a showcase in North Carolina. Bounced around to a few high schools.
Was arrested last March for conspiracy to commit second-degree larceny, criminal liability for second-degree robbery and conspiracy to commit second-degree robbery, related to a mobile phone robbery. Apparently he and his friends answered a Craigslist ad from someone selling and IPhone. The seller met them at a restaurant to show them the merchandise, two of Beaufort's friends went in while he waited in the car. The kids swiped the phone and ran with the seller giving chase. One of the kids fell and the seller detained him using a licensed hand gun (See Bill... another example of an armed citizen stopping a crime ) Beaufort took off in the getaway car but was questioned the next day and admitted to being the driver at the scene because he was looking to buy the phone, but denied any knowledge of the robbery attempt. Police were skeptical of Beaufort’s story because Beaufort remained in the vehicle and didn’t give the two teens any money to buy the phone.

Whoa why are we offering this guy? I'm assuming he wasn't charged with a crime, but still.

Based on this story, this young man appears to have serious judgment issues. I don't like this at all. This is not the direction I want to see us take.
Although I still believe in 2nd chances, I have learned after over 40 years in Law Enforcement the chances of not continuing their ways are very much against it, and they need monitoring and investigation before and after permitted.....
There is an old adage given by wise men.....If you were to enter a jungle, capture and mark a lion, and returned 20 years later and found the same marked animal, it would still be a lion...
The saying that ''There is no such thing as a bad boy'' has done much more harm then its intended good.
He may be worth the chance, but let the buyer beware.....
I would think if TC offered Beaufort a scholarship the staff did a very thorough investigation into the incident and the background of him. Between the amount of transfers and JUCO'S TC has recruited into the program there has not been one issue with any of the players, so I would give TC the benefit of the doubt in this case. Just a question, in a case such as this does the staff have to get the ok from the administration? If yes then I would think the admin. also vetted him as well. Kind of confused if he is a '15 or '16 recruit, but if for the class of '16 I would imagine he has been told he obviously has to stay issue free and get his academics in order the next 2 years for a commitment to be honored

sharkey, I hope for the same but as a coach how much vetting can you really expect them to do?
Especially, in light of the reduced time the NCAA has imposed on a coaches ability to have contact with a recruit.
