Although our game ended around 8 pm there was not one word about it in either the NY Post or the Reported Dispatch........But there was the usual rating of Metro Area teams....... Number 1 was St.John's......This is their disgraceful schedule, and they never did any travel what so ever. Humboult State St. Thomas Aquinas NJIT Franklin Pierce LIU. Seton Hall was No.2...Their schedule not much better...Last game, beat a team called Gardner Webb.......... Iona was No.3..coming off a grueling road trip that traveled well over a 1,000 miles and 3 road games with opponents much tougher... This is a rating that defies and exposes the blatant prejudice of the New York sport writers..........It is something we have to live with even though we are establishing a reputation that is known by most of our opponents as one of the toughest outs on their schedule...A visit to the teams board sites will testify to that... As the season progresses the gap will IMO widen between Iona and Metro area field and as it does we will have earned a reputation that cannot be ignored.....

I think a part of it is just ignorance by the Post. They had a ranking of NY area recruiting classes I saw and gave us a B, saying we didn't sign anyone to replace Laury without even mentioning Bessick.

tiger, to say that SJU plays in the Big East and NOT mention their schedule, which doesn't even rise to cupcake level is embarrassing to the paper and the reporter. Not sure whether to blame bias or ignorance. You're a fan of Providence, so compare their schedule to SJU, which is in the same conference. OT has this right.

Re the Post there is also the apparent fued between Braziller and Zagoria and possibly resentment of the relationship Zagoria has with our program. No excuse not to do your job imo, but whatever. Also since we're technically not in NYC, there is always an argument to exclude us from NYC coverage/tournaments/etc. which is convenient for anyone who wishes to do so for various reasons. Bottom line, as I've said before, if you want to get news/information on college hoops I wouldn't turn to the Post. The Yankees? Giants? Sure, read the Post. NY Buckets, Jaden Daly do a nice job of local college hoops. NY Buckets even includes analytics in the coverage. ESPN this year I think has been quiet on mid-major hoops coverage. Not sure what that is about and I'm hoping it turns around. Usually they are pretty good.

OT, while I share your frustration by the lack of coverage of the Gaels (or bias against them) in the NYC press, the recognition that should be more important in the long run is highlighted below:
ESPN currently ranks Iona as #23 with an RPI of 0.6921. St. John's is ranked #230 and Fordham #166. CBS sports ranks the Gaels #29 with an RPI of 0.07071. Yahoo Sports ranks us #31 with an RPI of 0.7167. St. John's is #120. RealTime RPI, has not been updated yet to reflect yesterday's win over North Texas. Despite that, we are ranked #35 there with an RPI of 0.6958. St. John's is ranked #150.
Thanks to our coaches scheduling tough OOC opponents, if the Gaels continue to play well, based on strength of schedule, they may be in the conversation for an at large bid in the Big Dance, should that be necessary.

macro not micro...lets keep winning and the press will follow... How much more winning would you like?? Iona gets better national recognition than it does in NY. To Bill's point about not being in NY. Iona is more in NY than is Seton Hall. BigEast BS! National press is not as impressed with the big east as is NY press.

If we want coverage for our basketball team, which is well deserved in my opinion, we have to upgrade the facilities to attract more talent and raise the academic profile, which isn't as bad as some locals like to make it out to be, but did suffer a bit under the previous regime. In upgrading the facilities we simply need a bigger facility (doesn't have to be drastically bigger) that looks good on TV and has modern locker rooms/training rooms/weight rooms. We're never going to have a TV room with 15 individual personalized recliners for each player like Big State U. But the support facilities have to be able to attract players. Think about that UConn has something like $1 billion at its disposal right now to upgrade the University. Its actually kind of disgusting. We'll have to make the decision after this year as to what we want to do going forward.

Adam Zagoria has been one of the best college sports reporters for years, long before he had any reportorial relationship with Iona. Before joining SNY, Adam worked for a small NJ newspaper while doing his Zagsblog. I'd go out of my way to buy the paper just to read his NJ basketball coverage. While I say he's one the tops, he has long surpassed Hoops Weiss as the guru of college basketball coverage. Don't know if there is any feud between Adam and Zach or if it is just professional competition. But if Braziller allows personal issues to get in the way of journalism, he is not a professional and has already lost the battle.

Re espn and mids, remember they went all in when they gave the guy who started mid-majority a full time job a few years back, then canned him not long after. There just isn't crazy national interest in the mids from the casual fan. The mids will never get full attention because they don't have the money and fanbases the big 6 schools have.

Big east is barely a 3 bid league now. The locals are afraid to schedule us.

We were 23-4 before we beat Louisville at MSG and we hadn't received much press until then. So this is not a new story.
