1983, remember, we seem to be having a great deal of trouble getting decent teams to play us at the HAC. And like them or not, I'm guessing that a game against Fordham will be a big draw. I have fond memories of Iona - Fordham games when Fordham was a competitive D1 program, but that was 20+ years ago. We can do better. If Fordham gets its act together and becomes consistently competitive, then give them a game. But it's not in Iona's interest to help Fordham out of the hole they are in.

Yes I agree. Fordham should be better with their new coach. They signed a couple of good looking recruits. For me let's play local teams. Doesn't have to be every year.
I'm with you 59.......Up until the late 1970's Fordham was the ''Stuck up'' club who looked down upon the Gails...During the Valvano years we became a strict threat to their dominance...Once established, that dominance caused the jealous riff on Fordham's part...And so, a natural local rivalry fell apart... Both facilities need severe upgrading, and both staff and fan base need a complete renewal and new start...Once again I would like to feel the anticipation and the atmosphere of their meeting...I would gladly sacrifice a game with a mid major several hundred miles away... Now that we have become one of dominance in the Metro Area, lets not exhibit the same type behavior that brought about its demise...

Bob Hill was the Fordham coach that killed the traditional Fordham/Iona games.
Can't remember the exact quote, but a reference was made about local rivalries as, "these little teams that can't help us".
How ironic it is that Fordham basketball has been about as small as a program could get.
As much as I can't stand their arrogance, I'd still like to see this rivalry restored... I think it might help get some of the much needed juices flowing in NYC college hoops.
05 Probably attended at least 90% of Iona Fordham games both home and away since l946, I remember few if any that were not capacity or near capacity noisy crowds...The juices would without doubt flow again if renewed... Told before but worth repeating...Remember one Fordham game near the end of relations about 35 years ago...My score card had a 'Star' on it which meant a free half court shot which if made was a all expense 1 week trip for 2 to Bermuda....I gave it to my son about 15-16 at the time to attempt...He took one giant step from the far foul line...The ball was a swisher barely touching the net...The packed crowed went wild... As I had to purchase two additional tickets one for my wife, and one for a friend of my son, the shot cost me $1,000. That summer at the Iona golf outing dinner my name was selected from a basket...I won the grand prize, another free one week trip to Bermuda...I did not go, but again it cost me another grand for 2 additional friends...While making travel arrangements at the same Travel Agency the owner recognized me and said ''What the hell is going on''

Looks like we are in the Vegas tournament - - the South Point Hoops Classic, December 22 and 23. Teams are UCSB, Tulane and Akron.

1970, as they said at the time of Watergate, "Follow the money". Look at it as having: 1. Two more OOC games. Four down and six (??) to go. 2. Playing in Las Vegas, never hurts recruiting. 3. Nothing is certain but we should win both Las Vegas games.

Nothing is certain but we should win both Las Vegas games. should have just played at the garden one game and a road game where we get paid for the other. this doesn't help rpi or recruiting playing these teams and its not an exempt tournament so we don't play any extra games for this we could have went to the FGC tournament

1970, how do you know that it DOESN'T HELP recruiting? And what would the FGC tournament cost? I ask, because II have no idea, but it seems that you do know.

This is disappointing. Plain and simple. A ways to go for sure, but our OOC slate at the moment is less than impressive. Will need at least 2 guarantee games to bolster it.
