Just once, when the game is on the line, I would like to see a clear out for AJ. Win or lose with your best player involved. I'm certain if the chips were turned, Davis would of had the last shot for UMASS.
Tough loss.

We never make plays down the stretch, Cluess teams don't win games when trailing close And they don't hold on with the lead late, either. Iona was outscored 14-4 in the last 5 minutes of this game. 14-4. As in we scored 4 points in 5 minutes. This was due to English and Laury vanishing. At Monmouth, we led by 3 with like 2 to play and lost by 3.

Cluess reportedly pissed at the team for the late-game execution, but our best players weren't doing the executing.

What's the knock on Cluess exactly here? That he drew up a picture perfect play for IW and he got a wide open look at a 3 but the shot didn't fall? Or that he had a spread offensive set on the final possession down 3 just like we wanted and Ibn made a horrible pass that sealed our fate?
Just trying to understand.

IW has been cold, his missed free throw and missed open 3's cost us game, although the rest of his game and effort was great. I don't think Cluess did a good job of running plays for his best players. With 15 seconds left the ball should be in Aj's hands from the start. 12 assists shows he can do more than just score, made some great passes tonight.

Outscored 14-4 in game's last 5 minutes. One of the best offenses in the country manages 4 points against a so-so-at-best UMass D in crunch time. English and Laury vanished. The ball has to be in those guys' hands down the stretch of games, not Ibn's.

Hey overall I love Cluess but the gripe is he can't win close games, and his plays after timeouts never work, even if IW should have hit that 3.

Oh well, on to conf play. This. It's a terrible, terrible MAAC. We are wildly inconsistent on the road and as we saw with Monmouth and GMU we can fall to even weaker teams on the road. But we have to have 10 wins at home (already have 1) and need to find a way to go 7-3 on the road (already 1 loss).

Oh well, on to conf play. He should be pissed. But then again, as was just said, his teams never pull out these games. The players change. The results remain the same. Some programs play the last five minutes like victory is almost inevitable. Our teams play like the rules have been changed on them and someone has swapped out the basketballs. That's not coaching?

Gaels down to 98 RPI.

No quality wins mean win the Maac and we are matched up with a top 9-12 team, which is probably too much. Need to win games like this. Our RPI went from 84 to 94, would have gone up to about 64, so that's a 30'point RPI drop by not pulling that out, kills chance at 13 seed. Seeds are made in November and December, can't underestimate the importance of these games if the goal is to win an ncaa game. As far as getting in the tourney it means nothing.

Your right guy just saw 99, thought I saw 94, even worse RPI hit than I thought.

Been saying this forever about importance of early season OOC games. But think you're being too harsh. Way too early to give up on the 13 seed. Heck last year we didn't have as good of an OOC body of work and we were practically a lock for 13 by end of season. Not even factoring in all the variables with upsets in other conf tourneys, etc.

Gaels have won close games and have won them in the Cluess era. We are just choosing not to remember.
