I was thrilled he left--no wins in the MAAC tournament in 3 years, including one of the all time horrible games in Iona history. No personality, anger management issues, aloof, looking for the next job Day 1. No hatred ic59; always believed he was what he continues to be at Seton Hall--a mediocre coach who does not know how to build all aspects of a program. Shady hire to get Whitehead shows the desperation. +1 Willard leaving and Cluess being hired was a huge positive swing for Iona. Thank God Willard is no longer here.

Nobody should be pissed if someone leaves for a better opportunity. His style of play was as exciting as watching the grass grow. Yeah I think the guy had to take the money. I don't begrudge him for leaving. Just curious if he would say it was worth it or not. Maybe for him making a lot of money is worth constant abuse and ridicule from fans/press.

He did the right thing, bigger school bigger conference bigger money. I am surprised however, that he never scheduled a game against Iona. I think he must have left on bad terms, not thankful at all for the opportunity he got at Iona. Oh well

As a fan of both Seton Hall and Iona, it ticks me off to no end that SHU won't let this matchup happen. It would be great for Met area hoops, though I suppose Willard doesn't want to risk the embarrassment of losing to the school that formerly employed him. Meanwhile, Seton Hall makes curious scheduling decisions such as playing at Longwood a couple years ago.
As for Willard's contract, he must have the most prohibitive buyout in NCAA hoops history (though no one seems to know the exact figure). It's sad. Regardless of how much the buyout is, Seton Hall should be able to make the needed coaching change. If they can't afford it, then they have no business being in a conference like the Big East.

jimsouls, I know that you, and most SH fans, are down on KW. But I think that he has the team moving in the right direction. Granted he must get IW to play like a PG and run the offense. The talent is there, across the board, for the Pirates to move towards the top of the BE. A soph heavy roster must come through or the school will/should change coaches. I am very grateful to KW, as he helped turn our program around, and by leaving he made it possible for Iona to hire TC and JG. JMO.

What I'd like to know is why we spend so much time talking about a coach who hasn't been here since 2009-10.

GuyF, I think some cannot get over the fact that he left Iona. They feel like the jilted boyfriend/girlfriend. Iona program in great shape with someone else. Move on.
