Heard an interview with Mullin (maybe w/Fanccessa) echoing the intended use of a fast paced style at SJ.
He attributed being influenced by Fred Hoiberg.

Joebird, like you I hate hearing so much about SJU. The good thing is that it's about college BB, and not the Knicks or Nets. Indirectly, it (Mullin buzz) puts pressure on our staff to succeed. As they say, when products compete they get better. Think of the Johnnies as the Washington Redskins of the NFL. They (Washington) always won the offseason, but not the regular season. As I've posted I like CM, but if you ask me which team will have the better record next year, Fordham or SJU, I'll go with the Rams. And I have NO IDEA what their respective rosters will look like.

Very happy to hear other voices joining in the discussion of how to improve the college game www.nycbuckets.com/2015/04/maine-bob-walsh-on-his-experience-lebanon/ . Coach Walsh has hit the nail on the head about college (high school also) defensive play has gone too far. The shot clock is not the fix. This has been my gripe for years. There are rules all ready on the books, but the referees are unwilling or unable to make the calls. Of course most coaches are going to scream and yell, like spoiled children, about the calls being made against their players until they realize there is a new reality. I wish it would happen, but in all likelihood it will not. Imagine skilled players actually able to showcase their skill vs being mugged. Rick Pitino realized a long time ago that he did not need the best basketball players, but just hard working physical defenders to win at the collegiate level. I feel most college coaches who move onto the NBA fail in their transition because the defensive schemes in college are not allowed in the pros. In my opinion Manhattan and Coach Masiello would not have the success they have had vs Iona if the refs called the games according to the rules.

They could foul us every time down, but we still would have won had we used our bench over the weekend.
