Tau, you are claiming that there are still three players that are going to be suspended? If so, then why did they even suit up for the San Diego state game? I'm not saying that you are wrong, but I haven' heard anything. The three players that were mentioned here were Jones , Stewart, and Lipscomb, the last two being walk-ons. The talk around St. John's is about Lavin's future.

Rothstein on SJ's
It's time for St. John's to make an official decision on Steve Lavin
This is starting to get ridiculous. The Red Storm's administration has hemmed and hawed for almost a week on their head coach's future and that's not fair to Lavin or his staff. Despite reaching the NCAA Tournament for the second time in five years it's clear that St. John's is undecided whether it truly wants Lavin to continue. There were several reports on Wednesday that Lavin was in talks with the school for a multiyear extension, but sources told CBSSports.com that those reports may be premature. A word to the wise: Decide what you want to do quickly. The longer it drags on the worse it looks for the university. A plethora of institutions have ended their seasons and announced coaching changes within a day of their final game, but it appears that things move at a slower pace at St. John's. I've always wondered why St. John's hasn't won an NCAA Tournament game since 1999. Now I think I'm beginning to understand. If you don't have an administration that has clarity and is in order, you can't win basketball games. The two go hand in hand.

St John's policy is 1st time failed drug test, it's coach and AD decision on punishment, if any. 2nd failed drug test, is auto 2 week suspension, which is what Obekpa got.

This Rothstein quote is up on the Rumble. They are damaging Lavin more by doing this. I posted there that "I hope the administration knows what they are doing" Apparently they don't. They needed to extend Lavin one or two more years right away, although this is not the popular opinion at St. John's. I certainly agree that he is not a very good coach when you exclude recruiting, but, you see, the timing is not right for a new coaching hire. There are not nearly enough good players on the roster to attract a good coach. They would end up hiring a subpar coach just because of the timing of the hire.
The smart move, in my judgement, would be to extend him, let him recruit, see how he does on the court, and then if he shows no results cut him loose with a buyout. Then you would get a better coach since he would see some players on the roster. Cut Lavin loose now, and you lose Brandon Sampson, who is a top 50 player, and you might lose Jordan and Obekpa. The roster would be bare. What good coach would want to walk into that situation? But now they have damaged his rep even more by their handling of this matter. It now appears as if Lavin is leveraging the fact that they have struck out on these other coaches, and going for a long term extension. They don't have a clue what they are doing.

Obviously they didn't get the boot, maybe they would have had it been regular season. I believe this 100% my guess is Lavin gets fired tomorrow. So many bloggers got duped the last few days, it's a circus

Lavin said in press conference that he would be surprised if Obekpa came back. This is year 6. At No time should year 6 be a rebuilding year

Tau, I think the quote was "I wouldn't be surprised if they came back". Coaches sometimes have rebuilding years, but not like the one Lavin is facing. My point though, is he is really the only one that could begin the rebuild since he recruited like the no. 38 class in the country. It's still not nearly enough considering how much talent he is losing this year. So I get your point.
