In years past it was a tougher ticket because there were more teams. 16 as opposed to only ten now.

I guess my initial thoughts in this thread were not baseless.

The BE conference final had a listed attendance of 13K+, which was far from filled and nowhere NEAR what the old BE drew for their championship game.

Have to disagree with Masiello re St. John's being one of the best jobs in the country. Outside of St. John's alumni, does anyone care about that program anymore? Even with the Knicks and Nets being awful, there was zero buzz about St. John's this year. The sad truth is that New York City is not a college basketball town, and hasn't been for a long time. If it was, then the Garden wouldn't have been 40 percent empty for the Big East Tournament. No offense to Masiello and the Hurleys, who could wind up being good coaches, but this "great job" isn't going to attract the proven winners like a top job would. I read a few people on another forum suggesting Rick Pitino, which is laughable. Besides the fact that he wants to retire in a few years, why would a coach of his stature drop down from the ACC to the Big East? Even Richard Pitino is in a better place. I disagree with Masiello, also. Because it's not one of the top jobs in the country. But the point I was trying to convey was that it indicates that he seems to want the job. Which is good because I thought that maybe nobody wanted it. But your right, it's definitely not one of the top jobs in the country.
Though I'd rather play in the Big East then the ACC unless it was Duke, UVA or UNC. Plus, it was a higher RPI conference then the ACC the last two years and we got a higher percentage of teams in the tourney. ESPN does not have their contract anymore so of course they are talking down the league. CBS the same thing. Even if they dropped down to sixth it would still be a great league. But they aren't, they were second. Out of 32! You don't actually believe that stuff. One moron said the reason why nobody is paying a attention to Nova was because the Big East isn't the Big East anymore. No! It's because you don't have their TV contract anymore! If you watched FOX sports you would get a different story. They have the contract. You see, these people are just Media whores masquerading as serious professional journalists.
just wondering why you referred to the BE as we

I heard Masiello on the Michael Kay show, yesterday, and thought it was good radio. When he talked up the SJU job I got the feeling that he was interviewing for the job.

I would have to think that after last years fiasco, Manhattan had to have structured Massiello's contract in such a way that they would have to receive a kings ransom for him to depart - they'd have to be complete morons not to do that.

Cjb, gotta believe that Manhattan structured contract with big buyout to insure his return after enduring the fiasco. If not they and their legal team blew it. Also where would St Johns find funds for Lavin buyout and new coach buyout?

Just listened to the Masiello interview with Kay and was shocked that MC would let him go on. Must be a slap in the face to MC that he went on as a guest. And he didn't exactly sound grateful to be at MC either. When asked if he was interested in SJU his response was "I'm the HC at MC". Not exactly a ringing endorsement for the Jaspers.
Having said that, Masiello is a savvy and calculated guy, and nothing happens by accident. Maybe he is trying to push the buttons of the admin over at MC to take one step closer to the exits.

Was it Seth Greenberg that was being considered when Lavin got the job? He was on the radio today with Gonzo, and it seemed that he was interested in the SJU job, and also said that Fordham would be crazy if the didn't hire Gonzo, who he described as the former Manhattan coach. No mention of his time at Seton Hall.

Sounds like Manhattan never restructured contract last year, but instead left original contract in place. Mistake. I wonder how the players feel about him with one foot out the door. Again. Recruits beware. Very glad he is theirs and not ours.
