Biggest issue with this year's team was handling the extended physical defensive pressure which effectively took Iona out it's rhythm and made our players uncomfortable. Isaiah and David at times appeared to be the only players not visibly effected by this. Coach Masiello and Coach Dunne have created the blueprint to beat this year's team and Coach Hurley followed that. Everyone points to defense lacking as THE big problem and I agree that consistent defense is a problem, but the BIG problem has been when we face the extended defensive pressure Iona's shooting goes in the toilet due to very few OPEN looks. Look at the shooting percentages. Everyone knows if you leave Iona open they hit their shots, but consistent pressure on perimeter screws the rhythm. Sometimes penetrate and kick can create the space, but you need good ball handlers and shooters moving vs static. AJ, Schadrac, Ibn and Kelvin will need to work on the mental aspect of this type of defense to not let it create frustration and poor shot selection/execution. AJ has to work on losing the arm bar and pushoff as the refs are looking for it due to opposing coaches complaining, rightfully. I have faith that Coach Cluess will work on the team maintaining their composure and not letting these teams climb into their heads. The players will have to the figure out what works for them under pressure. The frustration effects everything on offense and defense. Players thinking too much vs reacting. I feel the lesson is learned and will be a point of emphasis moving forward.

It doesn't seem to matter whose at the helm. We always make a star out of an opponent's bench player or a juggernaut out of a mediocre team. I'm beginning to believe in "The Curse." Did we ever have anyone named Babe at Iona.
