Cluess will be back, we will win 20 games, or close it it, in a very weak MAAC, and we will have the same problems next year. Weak willed team when it counts, one trick pony offense and no defensive presence. I really thought Cluess turned a corner this year but that was a mirage. Cluess is stubborn and has concluded that what he does works just fine. And it does against most weak MAAC teams and some caught by surprise OOC teams. But the number of teams that are caught by surprise by Iona is dwindling rapidly, and unless we catch lightening in a bottle with a couple of extremely athletic big men, at the same time, this is Iona's future. Lots of points in a shitty conference.
Good night.

Well, that sucked.
Last year, when we lost to La Tech it didn't feel so bad because I thought we played a great game.
Can't say the same for tonight's loss.
DL3 deserved better.

The better team won. 11 missed free throws many front end of 1 and 1 kept Iona from crawling back in. Pressure D only works when you can actually pressure the ball handler and shooter. I will miss David Laury and his unique skill set. Very happy his effort on improving his shooting has paid off. Best wishes to him as he works to finish his academics and graduate.

People on the Seton Hall board are understandably weighing in on this game, considering that the two coaches have been mentioned as possible Willard replacements. Some of them also watched the MAAC championship, the only other Iona game they've seen all season. Some also remember that "BYU game a few years ago." Their impression is that Cluess doesn't coach defense and that they'd rather have Hurley. Not that it matters because Willard will apparently be back for year number six. I suppose this is good for Iona and the MAAC, as Cluess will probably continue to win as long as he's in New Rochelle. Embarrassing for me, though, because I've been critical of Seton Hall on that board for being "afraid" to schedule Iona. I've heard people mention Hurley to Seton Hall but as I understand it he was miserable there as a player. Doubt he would want the job.

Earlier this year I said we were the best of a bad bunch. We get blown out by a good RI team and the Jaspers loose to a MEAC team with a loosing record. I'm sick of the excuses about depth and playing 3 games in 3 days. The MAAC stinks and if we can't beat a bunch of lousy teams in a tournament that nobody goes to then we don't have the players or the staff to get it done. We have become masters of winning meaningless games. Cluess is 1 for his career in meaningful games at Iona. I hate that we can't defend. We're an all or nothing team. We'll be at the top of the MAAC again next year but I'm not expecting any different results come March.

We thought we were good. We're not. Manhattan thought they were good. They're not. We thought the MAAC was bad. It was. We have to stop drinking the Kool-Aid. We keep hearing that DL and AJ could play in any conference in the country..not after tonight's game. We have had all our delusions exposed tonight. Gaels, thanks for your efforts all year. Coaching staff, thanks for your efforts all year. Unfortunately, reality set in tonight.

I love you guys, but I cannot get down on this team, TC and his staff, or the program. And I am sure that no one on this board feels as badly as the team or the coaching staff. We are who we are - a good team in a small conference. We beat a big every few years, but mostly lose -- either by a couple of points, ala Syracuse, Virginia, Ole Miss or get creamed as by Maryland. Give me TC's style of play over the Willard years any day.
Best of luck to David Laury, Jeylani Dublin, and Kristian Duravcevic. Thanks for your time at Iona and best of luck to you all in the future.
Go Gaels!!!

Not if they try to take over a game the way they did tonight..you have to play within your skill set.

Let's face it! They only had to play in the MAAC and we didn't get it done!

St. John's is losing practically everybody headed for a major fall in 2015-16. The other "marquee" teams in the area, Seton Hall and Rutgers, have three NCAA bids COMBINED in the last 21 years (all by Seton Hall, but none in the past nine years). Iona wins a lot of games in a crappy conference. Fordham is in over there heads in the A10. Princeton is no longer capable of playing the occasional big-boy team close. At least NJIT won their opening round game in the College Insider tourney. Maybe now they'll get invited into a shitty conference like the NEC or the MAAC.
New York Metropolitan area college basketball stinks, and it has for many years now. Why is this so? Any takers?
